Unhappy Bad voltage regulator, info please

My '86 SC has the tell-tale 3 warning lights on while driving, indicating a bad voltage regulator, however i was just wonderin;

where is it ?
i understand on the NA's its built into the alt, where/what does it look like on the SC ?

how much is a new one or used one? is that a big deal ?

cheers guys

Angus

I'm pretty sure it's built into the alternator on all of them. On the MK2 the voltage regulator can be taken out of the alternator and replaced.

I believe on the SC cars, the regulator is in the trunk- not built into the alternator. I can't remember for sure, though.

i already searched the threads for others with similar problems, thats why i think it must be the voltage regulator, and if CpuZapper agrees the SC's had an external regulator then i just need to locate and identify it so i can get it checked out

cheers guys

The SCs did have an external regulator, it's behind the cloth panel in the trunk on the right (LHD passenger side) next to the ECU if I remember right.
