Bouncing Idle

Hi gang,

I bleed out my coolant system per everyones instructions and the bouncing idle is STILL there alive and well............

Does anyone have anymore ideas?

Thanks!

wish i could answer that question for you, but i don't know much about mk1's.

My best guess would be to start looking at your vacuum hoses, and then onto the intake system of your car (intake, throttle body, mani). sounds like you have an air leak somewhere. I had this problem on my mk2, turned out to be a bad intake manifold gasket. But i wouldn't start there, i would start with the easy stuff.

My engine is currently on the engine stand and I confirmed the block antifreeze - coolant bleed valve is indeed almost perfectly centered between the oil filter and oil pressure sender, directly above the AC compressor. A 10mm wrench will fit.

I agree with Phoenix, it's more likely to be a vacuum leak on the intake somewhere.

Ihave seen it where a dirty throttle body can cause a bouncing idle.

Last time I had bouncing idle I adjusted the TPS and that solved it. Actually I had to replace it with a used unit because the original was worn out.

ok on the same bouncing idle thing -

1.) where is the sensor that is "detecting" the coolant temp and causing the idle to bounce located (so i can check it out, see where the air is getting trapped exactly, i'm flying blind atm)

2.) TPS - i assume this is near the throttle body itself, if this IS another bone of contention, what does it look like exactly, what do i need to replace to check (i'll go get a replacement ASAP and see if mine has failed/is failing, the car also seems to have some "flatspots" and i'm wondering if this may be a cause too)
