Another Noob Idle Question
First post WOO! and i did use the search thing before you ask
![]() So i recently bought an AW11 with the normal 4A-GE in it. The car has like 240,000 miles on it (i wonder if its the original engine, because it pulls very strong). Anyway, after my first oil change (i used that high mileage stuff, nothing performance oriented) I noticed that the warm up idle was very high (like 2400-2500 rpm) also there was a LOT of steam (at least a helluvalot more than im used too, and ive owned 11 cars) most noticeable on cold days (obviously), i guess my question is, is 2400 rpm idle normal? (and yes, it stops steaming, and the rpms drop after a while, but its still in the 1300-1500 range) |

Did you use Mobil1 10w-40? Or that stuff that was formulated for cars with over 75,000 miles ?

That's the normal idle until the engine warms up. Mine sometimes hits 2700-2800 rpms while warming up.

it is something that a lot of toyota's do, i guess toyota figured that people wont warm the car up properly so they'll do it for you.a 25W60 would probably be a bit much, do you have any oil leaks or does it burn oil at all?

b4 going to a good, thin oil i would try a cheap one to check if you show signs of leaks. the big advantage of thick oil is that it can stop a lot of these leaks but if you go back to a thin oil then it can piss out
