subwoofers
has anyone put subwoofers in the rear trunks of they're mk1s? i am curious beacause limited space behind the seats and in the frunk. i would think you couldnt hear $hit from them if they were in the rear trunk because of the engine noise over powering the sound of the speakers.

i would imagine the same thing from the trunk. I have a 10 in behind pass. seat and an 8 behind mine. I was wanting to try to mold a speaker in the frunk and maybe drill a port hole into the cab and maybe i could get something out of it. any imput?

i've had 2 x 12" subs in the frunk in the feral, used to get 147db and a few trophies at comps (my system was mainly set-up for SQ) 42 trophies at home all up for the system.
currently running a single 12" in the frunk of the lil feral, both have a port hole i cut into the front firewall to vent the bass into the cabin. both sound unreal. (p.s. i did audio install as a job for 8 years and competition judgeing for 4 of those years). ![]() as for subs in the rear boot, this is feasable too. the rear fender cavity from the boot around the eng bay meets up with the firewall behind the seats. even when you put a pod filter on in the boot and pull out the bit of foam thats pushed up into the cavity on that side you can hear the filter sucking from in the cabin. so yes you will hear bass as well. get tricky with a air saw and i'm sure you'll be able to open up a little vent hole between the cavity and the cabin. |

i dont remember who makes them, but someone makes a shallow mount sub from like an 8 on up to a 15 that are designed for standard cab trucks that have limited space behind the seats. i was thinkin about 2 shallow mount 15s but im pretty sure with a good amp that my t-top glass would not be a part of my car anymore lmao

pioneer (premium i think you guy's call it) make awesome flush subs. i've installed a single 12" version into my mates aw11, was powered with this massive alpine amp he had. i made a enclosure for the sub behind the passengers seat, that sub went off.
trust me, you wont need more than 12" if your going in the cabin, specialy if your going to use 2 of them. |

like when you put the speakers in the frunk facing the cab does it sound pretty even in the cab? just curious because i couldn't even fit some 6x9's behind my seat. probably because i'm so tall.

i face them back into the firewall to 'load up' the subs. i've had them facing up towards the bonnet and back how they are now. the bass fills the cabin so well that you nearly think they are rear mounted subs. i had 6x9's in the rear of the feral as well, but when i was entered in SQ competition i turned the 6x9's off as the subs gave rear fill.
same with the single 12 in the lil feral i pictured, fills the cabin very nicely (and i'm not talking about flat out boom boom), i listen to fleetwood mac and a lot of older bands. |
