Breather locations

Hello,

I have recently bought a MK1 MR2 & have a fairly bad oil leak when the engine is warm. I think it's probably caused by a blocked oil breather putting up the pressure & squirting out oil when warm.

As I'm still new to MR2's, so can anyone tell me where the oil/crankcase breather pipe is?

Also, the fuel tank gives a big hiss when I remove the filler cap. I'm fairly sure it's another blocked breather. Does anyone know where the fuel tank breather is too?

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

The oil breather line is pretty easy to find, it runs from the rear valve-cover to the intake manifold. That was the first thing I checcked when I was trying to diagnose a large oil leak, just disconnect one end and blow through it then reverse the procedure and check the other end (yeah, I know it's gross but it works.)

Another good thing to check is to pull one of the spark plug wires and look down into the "valley." If there is oil in there then the valve cover gaskets are bad, I had this oil leak too and the gaskets were rock hard.

My main leak ended up being the front crank seal...unless you have a lift you're going to want to pay someone to do this. The seal is inside the oil pump which means you have to pull a bunch of stuff to get to it. The repair ended up costing me $485 to have the seal replaced and the timing belt changed.

Also the distributor seal(not just the o-ring).They fail pretty often. It will leak on the front part of the engine around the exhaust manifold and around timing belt cover(N/A engine). You can get a distributor rebuild kit for about $30 from kbox.com vs $170 for a distributor.Take the distributor cap of and peak in there with a inspection mirror.
