I had an '87 race car that did the same thing. You might need a new starter (something about the heat from the engine kerfockking the starter). Worse comes to worse, you can push start it for the race! (like I had to several times )

i replaced the harness, then still had to hot wire the fuel pump for it would start but it would shut down after a second or two. as for the race i got the car running about 5pm got to the track in the heat race the car was pushing bad and i left the top radiator hose clamp off, spewd water, got the black flag. went to the pits and the car was smoking and smelled of gear oil. car is broke.. statred the feature, ran a couple laps pulled in loaded up and went home. i pulled the tranny this mornin. the big gear where the cv shafts push into (dont know what ya call it) i welded up to get posi, had shattered and blew holes in the housing. i think i broke it out on the street before i loaded up to go. i ran that gear 4 2 yrs. i have another tranny. ive already split it and am welding that gear up tomorrow and should have it back in and be ready for sat. i have a question for anyone.....new clutch, will gear oil on the clutch disk ruin it???

Racin'. You just can't have more fun, can ya? I once left the tranny drain plug loose on my '87 SSC car and dropped an entire tranny full of fluid on the track in about 2 laps Luckily, a spark plug threads right in the hole! Sorry, can't help you with the electrical problem, but I definitely don't think tranny fluid is going to help your clutch disc--I'd buy another one.
