MR2 Again?

Iv been driving a 1990 Honda Accord Coupe, iv recently discovered rust which makes me really unsure of the car now. I was thinking of selling her and using the money to get my MR2 going...Should I or shouldnt I?

If I were to get her going she needs a new motor, and im not sure which to go with. Im thinking a silvertop, but how do they perform. Given a new clutch, lightweight flywheel, intake, header and exhaust, full tune up. How might the carperform, everyone says there fun to drive but what about the 1/4 mile? 15s, 16s?

The only thing hiolding me back is the performance? I could throw and H22(200HP, and 160lb) in my accord and run mid to low 15's all day for about $1200 with a 5spd conversion...But the rust is really getting to me...

Thanks afor all and any help, Iv read thru many forums and stickies on all these motors but I need some advice coming from people who have first hand experience with this...Thank you

Derek

You could throw a 3S-GTE into an MK1 with a little more effort and a lot more money and have a turbo MK1 where the sky is the limit as far as 1/4 mile times.

Or you could toss in a 4A-GZE, that would easily be in th 15's more than likely less depending on the driver and tires etc. I am SURE a silvertop STOCK would get you 15's (also 20 valves come stock with headers).

An MR car will naturally be quicker in the 1/4 than an FF car. When you accelerate your weight balance shifts to the rear and lifts the nose of the car, adding traction to the rear wheels. In an MR2 you can launch off the line like an AWD car, with the right tires you could pop the clutch near 5K and not get any wheelspin. In an Accord you would roast the tires doing that. On top of that the MR2 handles better than an Accord, if you can drive it.

I used to have an EF Civic hatch, I wanted to do a B18 swap. A buddy of mine had a CRX with a ZC and another friend had a B18 EF (with a HUGE bodykit...) And he could lay down LOW 13's. So I know where your coming from, but in the end the MR2 was designed to be a sports car. It turns heads, on occasion people think its a ferrari (or a fiero >< ) In my Honda people laughed at me, no matter what I could do to it it would always be just a Civic. But thats my opinion, I am not telling you what to do, its your car.

To be honest I wouldnt mind having another EF hatch lowered an inch, painted white, some Mugen wheels, a ZC with a 5 speed, and an entirely stock body and interior. Nice and clean, just because it was my first car...

I know a few people on the forums have mentioned throwing a turbo on the silvertop, so that might be an idea.

Also, do the motor mounts match up in the MKI for the 20v and the 4AGZE?

the motor mounts should be right its supposed to be a direct bolt up engine without major modification except for the starter and header issue on the 20v
