91-93 Muffler into Mark1 (opinions?)
The attached photo shows what the Mark2 OEM muffler looks like stuffed in my 89S/C street car. (It's not my fault it was free)
The existing mounting flanges don't even have to be modified. Just bolt this thru the trunck, put the carpet back and add flex exhaust tube. Conponent pictures available upon request. Last edited by mr2tim; 10-27-2008 at 02:21 PM.. |

you say the mounts do not have to be changed- but then you say you just bolted it through to the trunk..? So you are not using the hangers I take it. from what you can see, how much effort would it take to rig it to utilize the exhaust hangers (could the mark 1 mounts be relocated and or move the rods /hangers on the exhaust)? I have been wondering about the possibility of modding a nice aftermarket MK2 exhaust to fit my MK 1.5. From what I've seen in posts, it is said it will not fit but your example seems to contradict that.

More info please - Which MK 2 exhaust do you have? How did it fit? Any modification required?

Looks better than "ok".
How does it sound? Do you still have the cat installed? |

Interesting. Any pics of how you mounted it through the trunk? Or are you saying you modified the MKI hangars?

No on the Cat. This was the first thing to be tossed off my car for racing.
I kept the Cat, later I fabricated a Temp Muffler that I installed for the yearly emissions test, which thankfully was eliminated years ago. I like loud cars and this 93 muffler must be pretty used cause it sounds nice when I'm WOT. |

I got this exhaust too on my Mk1, but with Beams engine, and I get sound like some other Civic, so didn't like it really much. Below 3000 RPM sounds really great, but as soon as I hit gaz pedal hard, I get some vibration from the inside of exhaust.

Hmm was just talking about this today. I want to use a 2.5" or 3" on my 1.5 swap when i do it. How much work was it to make it fit right?

ExhaustTalk...Mark 1

Going straight back is the easiest, but the OEM bodywork is biased to the right. Once you decide what to do about this, it's all downhill.. First, I'd suggest the MOVING the o2 sensor be moved up into the exaust manifold, and out of the lower exhaust piping area. Second, be sure to utilize a Toyota OEM Flex-Joint (woven bronze metal thing)--go to a yard and get a shorty, if you need to. Third-use rubber washers on trunk penetrations. it'll reduce unwanted noise echo thru the trunk. I use adapters to get to 2.5 inches diameter, my final tip size is 3 inches. Racers Tip: when your all done, add a small wire somewhere that will back up the suspended exhaust pipe. (If there is a on-track problem all the parts will be wired to the car and not laying on the side of the track damaged, or lost in the woods) Last edited by mr2tim; 10-27-2008 at 02:20 PM.. |
