Heat Realated Problem? (long read please help)

ok so when i got my car there was a major oil leak and have tried alot to fix it but can figure out its location so i have been filling up oil like every two tanks
while working to replace parts but i still cant figure it out some was leaking form the distributor cause the inner O was broken so i just broke down and bought a new one since it looked very time consuming to fix. anyways i had to drive 300kms to a friends b-day and i was scared my car wouldn't make it so first i tackled a oil change and new oil filter which went fine then a coolant flush which was a bit confusing since i found out the guy filled the reservoir with water :O glad the block didn't crack and it wasn't taking the fluid in very fast to i put some in directly from the silver cap at the top (forgot its real name) and then some directly into reservoir watching it over next day to make sure it had enough anyways the day before the trip i bought two Quaker state 10w-30 bottles and since i was low i put one in when i got home from buying and put other in trunk for the trip also grabbed some coolant which i noticed was low in the reservoir anyways i drove up the 300km at about 160 at 4-5k revs with no problems except a speeding ticket. when it was time to leave i put the second oil bottle in and went about my way after filling up the tank and grabbing some snacks now after about 150kms back i was passing an aggressive truck driver so i accelerated to about 180kms at 6-7k revs then after i passed i was on a hill going down and my engine just shut off i had no idea what happened since i saw all the warning lights on so i immediately pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start it back up again and it bitched and moaned so i got out to take a look popping the engine bay i saw smoke coming from my wheel arch so i took a look and smoke was pouring out form what appeared to be under the rear trunk which was (super heated inside)i opened the reservoir and it seemed it did need some fluid so i filled it up to the line and tried to start again it was just endlessly cranking at the point right before the turn over so i turned it off and called for some assistance form a friend who said it would take him a couple hours but he was on his way, now feeling bad i might lose the mr-2 if i dont got enough for the tow i was depressed now after waiting about an hour i turned the key and the car miraculously turned over so we were on our way again 150 km back to the city. after making it back to our city i dropped him off and turned off my car to use his washroom and it started again fine after that i headed to work and a couple blocks before i got there it died as i stopped for a light so a couple good Samaritans helped me push it to a street were i parked it even tho the signs said no parking and now i am at working trying to figure out what my problem is... a couple suggestions i heard was water pump fan belt(which is till good)
and the guy pushing mentioned something about the oil he could smell..
plz any help would be greatly appreciated.

Damn, that is bad to hear. I know from experiance that your car will shut off if it over heats. When you left it while you were w8ing for your firend it would have cooled down so you could start it again. Did your thermo fans kick in? Can you check if they work? You said that the dizzy was leaking oil that could leak onto the exhaust and cause the burning oil smell. It could be your water pump, thermostat not opening, radiator being blocked. Reving at 6-7,000 RPM and then going up a hill will put a lot of stress on an engine and this coupled with a failing cooling system would spell danger. What was the air temp when this happened?

Damn that is low air temp so IMO it shouldnt have much to do with it. A thud from the engine doesnt sound good but i will have to pass this on to someone else. Sorry but i dont have any real iteas about that one short of it being lower engine.

Good luck

Anything making a thudding noise down there is suspect. My advice:
Remove oil level sensor and drop oil pan to see whats happened down bottom. I would do this first because turning the motor may be causing more uneccessary damage. Then having checked that I would do a compression test, check for spark etc.

You may have spun a bearing due to the motor being so hot that the oil couldn't lubricate the bearings properly.

Check the clunk and go from there.

Good luck!
