Unhappy 85 starting problems

I have an 85 that has been stored for the last couple of years and not started for I don't know how long. I'm getting it to crank but not turn over. Everything electrical is fine. I've replaced the cap/rotor and new plugs - spark seems fine. I sprayed some starting fluid in intake and it turned over for a couple seconds but then stalls out. It also sprayed some nasty rust colored water out the exhaust the first time. A friend of mine helped with a total engine rebuild about 10 years ago and has very few miles on it since and always started right up until now. Any suggestions????

check for fuel pressure , it sounds like it's your fuel pump. mine sat for many years and when i went to start it the fuel pump was dead.

has it been sitting all that time with fuel in it?

Very little gas was in it from what I remember - my dad put about 1/2 tank of new gas in to try to get it started before I picked it up.

Definitely no fuel pressure to the rail. The gas that was remaining in the line smells pretty bad. Any suggestions on the easiest way to test the fuel pump before taking tank off???

If you take the center console out you can get to the wire harness for the pump and test for power to the pump although when i tested mine it really didn't help me pin down the problem. You could check the fuel line at your filter to see if anything is pumping. Make sure also check all your fuses before you go to all the work involved in changing the pump.

Where are the fuses/relays for the pump located? I don't have my manuals.

the only fuse i see in the owners manual is a 15 amp EFI fuse in the engine compartment. i'm almost possitive that it's gonna be your fuel pump since you seem to have tested everything else and it all tests fine.
