I want CNG, IT'S $1.50 A GALLON!!
Jay Leno had Mr. Pickens on last night. He stated CNG was $1.50 a gallon.
I'd like to convert my Mark1. Any Clubbers ever run into any retro kits yet? I wanna go GREEN. |

2009 Honda Civic GX - the Official Honda Web Site I entered a Miami-Dade county zip code (since you're profile says "South Florida"), and it lists 4 dealers in Florida who sell them through there fleet sales department. Locate a Dealer Results - the Official Honda Web Site It even has a way to fill it at home. It fills in minutes at a commercial station, takes 15 hours or so at home, but it's cheap then. Here is the home refilling option. If you find a way to do it to an MKI, this would be a SWEET thing to pay for. Re-fill at home for cheap, like an electric, but with a lot better range. MyPhil.com Here is a link to the 09 Civic-GX brochure. Check out page 5 for their tid-bit on MyPhil. http://automobiles.honda.com/images/...x-brochure.pdf MyPhil would allow you to re-fill for pennies compared to gas, and right at home too. The downside is the slow re-fill time, but it's a worthwhile trade off IMO. If you are able to ever do a CNG MR2, or even if you buy a commercially available CNG vehicle like the civic GX, I would look into MyPhil. |

Many years ago the entire city of Sunrise went to CNG with all their police and city vehicles but it for some reason didn't last long. I did see several police cars equipped with CNG but the entire trunk of the crown vics was filled by 3 tanks about 3 or 4 feet long and they weighed a ton. The conversion was designed to run on CNG and when empty it would switch back to gas. The problem with the police cars was that they ran out of th CNG rather quick and they spent the majority of the time on regular gas so they really weren't saving much.
By the way most post office vehicles run on CNG so there must be an easy conversion kit. |

This is somewhere to start.
LPG Paul Woods went propane a few years ago. Another viable option, and you can run dual fuel. Probably not necessary for starting where you live, but can be nice on long trips and to keep the injector seals and O rings from drying out and cracking. |

You bet you can do it to a second generation, it's all a question of time, money and how determined you are to complete the task. There are several kits out there that would allow you to convert to propane, and probably almost as many to convert to natural gas. I looked hard at changing my MKI to propane, but wasn't willing to give up the trunk to the propane tank, and I may be wrong but CNG probably requires just as stout a tank as LPG.
I like and support your statement, MR.....never FF Please keep us informed if you choose to convert. |
