Droning sound.
When I'm not gassing my mk1, sometimes there would be this low droning sound emanating throughout the cabin.
When I'm stepping the gas, the sound would go away. Could it be that the motor mounts are bad? |

Well .. it always had that issue.
Even before i swapped the alternator, had good vacuum lines, and fixed my cooling system. So the car would be in a sound running condition and it would have that aforementioned issue. Thoughts ?? |

Can you record it? I mean the mk1s are notorious for a droning engine noise in the background as you drive. (never driven or rode in another style *spyder or sw20* so cant say about them)

Well, the timing isn't really off .. so then that should be out of the factor, but I should check that.
But I think that sound will be hard to record. It's such a low note that you feel it more than you really hear it. It's like when an entire building is creaking when it is about to collapse or something. Like the sound of steel moaning? |

Are you sure the sounds not there all the time and you're just not hearing it over the sound of the engine while on throttle? That sort of noise is usually associated with a wheel bearing.

i bet if you take it into a shop they could check it for a little amount of money. cuz all they are doing is checking out the sound.

I only hear it sometimes when the engine idles. When I'm gassing it, the sound would go away. Even when I'm parked and not moving.

Well, no .. I have not replaced the timing belt, yet.
I've just had the distributor adjusted for timing, as well as the idle control valve. The car idles around 800rpm to 1000rpm now. |
