Question 93+ MR2 shifter mod

After searching a little i couldnt find my answer so here we are.

I'm wanting to put in the 93+ mr2 shifter into my 86 mr2 but, i read somewhere (twosrus.com) that some people are having trouble getting into 5th and reverse gear. I wanted to know how many people have this mod and have no complaints?

Vote - No, I do not have any problems.

I actually did a product review on the Shift3 kit through Twosrus. All of the details are included in it, which can be found here Product Review: Twos R Us Shift Kit3.

To sum that up, I don't really have any issues. Reverse is a little bit more picky, and I've never had any problems with 5th gear.

Timon,
Thanks for your in depth review, I have the whole short shift kit installed including the solid brass bushings minus the 93+ shift lever. I plan on having a six speed installed in my car i wonder how it would feel? Also do you have the twosrus shift knob?.

Yes, actually I do have the Twosrus shift knob. The only reason I got it is because their site specified that the stock shift knob will not work with the 93. This is my first round shift knob and I love it. It works great, and has a really good feel. Some people do not like round ones, and if that's the case I'm sure you could find one that would fit from elsewhere. My biggest complaint is how easily the finish scratches, and when it does you'll almost instantly notice.

I went with the gloss black, machine finished, necked shift knob.

Also, just a side note about reverse, you may notice a clicking noise, so to speak, when you go into reverse at times. This may just be something with my tranny. It doesn't grind, but you can feel something kind of grab as you pull it into reverse - but not all the time.

On another note, I added the brass shifter cable bushings (the ones that go in the engine bay), after installing the shifter, and I can honestly say I didn't notice any difference with them. My stock ones were rock solid though, but I went from solid to even more solid in that matter.

Timon that click you get is normal for a manual tranny. Reverse is a straight cut gear with no syncro and an extra planetary gear as the direction has to change. Just saying that there is nothing to worry about as they do that, also means that reverse sometimes doesn't select so you have to let the clutch out in neutral and try again.
