I've never tried to bondo a hole, but I've done body panels before. I'd suggest getting something to put under the hold, put the bondo into the hole to fill it, and then of course smooth it all out.

I vote to weld them and grind them down flat. But I've heard from people before that have used bondo to tack weld a piece of metal on the inside of the hole and bondo over them to prevent the bondo from caving in and to have a good base.

I had a hole in the hood of my El Camino and I used a magnet underneath and then bondo over top. Once the bondo hardened it was sanded down then primered. I am not a body guy but it looked nicer than a hole.

I vote weld if you want to permanently seal to hole to the world otherwise it will cave with time. I'm talking years though so your probably pretty safe whatever you do. MkI look funny without the spoiler imao.

DO NOT BONDO SPOILER HOLES
Bad idea, over time it will fallout, concave, crack, fail, blowup etc. Weld it closed, its quick and most shops can do it in about a minute. Body shops have little coin sized pieces of steel specifically for this purpose, seriously, It will take them a minute and cost you $20 bucks in most cases. Weld it closed, then grind it flat....then do a fine bondo over it. I'm not a body guy, but I worked in a body shop for several months and I had to fix several bondo'd holes from customers who thought they could do it themselves, and it failed within a year. |

That is why I said imao personally I'm arrogant and couldn't care less what other people think lol. I like my trimmings even if they keep falling off. Then again I used book cover duraseal for car numbers
![]() ![]() On topic I welded up some spoiler holes on my mkII project today and it took about and hour by the time I was done smoothing out. I found that the mig had distorted the metal slightly with the heat cause of the heavier gauge wire and setup I was using but it wasn't hard. Then I used an angle grinder to smooth the weld then a sander to smooth better before primer and a little body filler to hide distortion. Should have taken pictures to show how easy but didn't think about it. Decided welding is the way to go cause there was bad rust from the previous bondo job which is why I was fixing it but now it is permanent. Was undecided on bondo or weld but looked at the rust and the fact I had a welder and the ability to do it plus what was said in the thread so I went with welding, looks good now, no more holes! |
