Recently purchased 87 MR2. Few minor bugs, anything I should know?
Im new to Toyotas in general. My mr2 has 227K on its stock 4age, light body damage, bit of rust. I'm taking it to my mechanic friend this week for a checkup and was just wondering if there are any problem areas on this model that I should pay close attention to. The headlights will flicker a tiny bit in time with the engine at idle and blinkers seem to sap some more energy too. I know shes 21 but I know this aw11 will last another 20 if properly maintained so I'm just in the process of figuring out the best way to go about that.

Welcome
The voltage gauge is very sensitive so that's not a big deal. How bad is the headlight flicker? |

Ya, I noticed the gauge was real touchy, the headlight flicker is barely noticable. What is noticable on the other hand is the wall my engine hits whenever I give it any more than 10% throttle. This just happened, no warning. Distributor? Fuel filter? Vacuum lines? The idle is real low, around 5g, but it revs fine in neutral. Whats going on?

The idle can be adjusted with the screw at the intake (should be around 900 or so). Check your AFM , make sure it's working properly. If the fuel filter is old it's a good idea to change it , it's not very expensive.
