Clutch and Flywheel?

89 Mr2 Mk1. Almost 200k miles on it. I am planning to swap to 4agze later next year. While I have the $ I want to replace a long needed clutch.

So, I am turning to those that have more experience. Sites to research, brands to look at... stock clutch? racing? stage 1? Flywheel: lighter one or stock?

If you replace the clutch and you are planning to upgrade later it is just money wasted to do any work just use a good brand clutch and it will be fine (I use exedy). Stock flywheel is fine they are not that heavy. I would have the flywheel skimmed though to make sure the clutch bites good. That is unless you plan to use the flywheel and clutch on the 4agze?

SC trannies and N.A. trannies use different clutches and flywheels. The Sc version being larger and heavier in every case.

Avoid racing clutches with pucks, unless you almost exclusively race your car.

Aluminum flywheels are pretty nice to have. They are not highly rated in the bang for a buck department. I wish my car had one, but I need to spend that $400. on other more urgent needs.

I have had really good luck with ACT (advanced clutch technology) clutches. The don't slip and they last a long time too. The heavy duty version is all you need ... probably.

I meant if he used the full drivetrain/gearbox assembly not just the clutch. I should be more specific when I say things like that.

You can have the stock flywheel lightened but I'm not sure on the strength of it when it is done. I had one machined down by a friend and haven't had issues. I never weighed it though. And yeah stay away from "race" clutches they are just nonsensical on the road especially coupled with a lightened flywheel

look for a blacktop flywheel as they weight around 12lbs and can be bought for $50- $75 so why waste $300+ more for 2-3 additional lbs. I went with a competition clutch 2300 that is kevlar full faced disc but it set me back almost $500. I am using the c52 trans w/ 4agze
