Tired power windows

Hey guys,

in my '86 SC both passenger and drivers side windows go up and down pretty slowly and seem like they are working hard to do it

Can I do anything to make them operate as good as new again ? such as grease or lubricate the runners or something ?

anybody ever looked at this ?

im just worried that one day they will go down and stay down

In my 94 Toyota Corona the windows zoom up and down at least twice as fast, i wish i could swap the motors out or something

any ideas ?

I don't have power windows, so I can't say, but maybe this might help.

Aye Angus me poor, poor old Laddy . . . What can we do wee yee?

Yeev got "Tired window Syndrome". What color would you like yer casket in?

O.K. joking aside (get some Nukes New Zealand and get respect). No, no, stop kidding . .

O.K. mrtwosrus.com has a plastic replacement cogs for about 25 bucks each. On my two Mk I's I've replaced the cogs on three out of 4 doors. Odds approach certainty that you need them now, or will in the near future.

You can lube the track at the bottom of the window, and lube the window cranking mechanism. But if you dissassemble the window crank parts, (its a bitch) you might as well replace the cog while you are there.

Check for corroded electical contacts in the window relay boxes mounted on either door, and where the switch plugs in too. Also PW switches get "tired and old". You might try finding a fresher set a junkyard, or online auction. I think they are like many aw11 parts from the dealer RIDICULOUSLY expensive and $350 US for the driver's side. I paid $75 bucks for an almost new set of switches, one of my best parts buys ever. I hoard them like they are gold.

Oh, by the way MKI PW's are slow windows compared to almost any other PW on any other car. Could be they used small motors to keep the weight down.

Really, I'm jealous of you living down under: you have cannibals living in your jungles. . . .sweet!

Grease up the tracks and check that the window water sealer thing is not pressing hard against the glass slowing it down. If the switches are tired sand the contacts. I did that to mine and they worked sweet as again.

And being down under is getting me down thanks to the retarded laws. We need cops with guns and more victim protection. Victims get charged more than perpetrators down here.

Cheers guys,

sounds like a bit of a fu*k around ay

ill wait till i get some new cogs before i start taking the doors to bits

In other news...

telling NZ to get nukes is like telling the city of LA to get nukes, we only have 4 million people and cant even support our already limited army

i remember a few years back in the news, NZ army bought a bunch of rocket launchers but couldn't afford the ammo to use while training people to use them

also our tanks are aluminium! (wiki says they do 50mph )

and since we refused to buy some F16's form the US, our airforce consists of Vietnam era Huey helicopters and Hercules planes, no jets anymore

and the cannibals don't eat people anymore, so can't really be called cannibals

but we do have a hundreds of MR2's with enthusiastic owners, so thats what matters to me, plus miles and miles of empty country roads

I wasn't serious about the cannibals, or nukes. Joking.

However I am serious about this bit of deviance: female politicians. I heard that you have/had a split-tail prime minister, and most of your parliment are split tails too.

I almost wish we had a female president here during the last 8 years. Maybe she wouldn't have war crimed a million civillians to death, and tried to legitimize torture.

Careful what you wish for. Our split tail prime minister swindled away billions in clear economic times to please her voters and now only after the books have been opened is it clear how bad it was. Our ex finance minister should actually be in jail for some of the deceitful things he did under her, it has been hushed up a bit in the media. We do have some excellent females in government though. I don't actually care as long as they can do their damn job right.

And yes our defense force is a joke.

What do you guys in NZ need a huge defense force for? By the time any invading army made it to you they'd be out of fuel and supplies. Just kidding. I love New Zealand. If I could get a Park Ranger job there I'd move in a heart beat.

Now...what was the original topic? Oh yeah! Power windows!

Along with what everyone else has suggested, try cleaning up your battery-body ground or add one if you don't have it. When I was doing some heavy modding to the sound system of my old F-150 I added an extra 2 gauge wire to ground the battery to the body. Not only did this diminish the amount that my headlights dimmed when the bass hit, my power windows went from sluggish to near guillotine speeds! (I mean this figuratively, of course.)
