Positive Battery Cable

My battery cable needs to be replaced. I'm mainly concerned about the cable end on the starter. How is it connected? Does it use a ring connector? Are there any ring connectors made that would have an allen wrench adjustment to tighten them on so I'm not dealing with crimping it (I've had issues with crimps failing after so long or not making a good enough connection) ? Can I get to it without moving the starter, or is the cable connected under the heat shield?

Details would be much appreciated.

when i did it i took the starter out...im not sure if you have to but i did just to make it easier plus its only 2 bolts and im not sure about the allen clamp...but you might be able to get a cable with a eyelet in it already or use electrical tape on the crimp

I was able to find pictures, and it looks like the stock setup uses a ring terminal, with a bolt to hold it down, much like the terminal end, is that true? Also, I was able to find a ring terminal with an allen head on to it clamp it down for 2 AWG wire, but I need to know what size the ring would need to be. The ring terminal I'm looking at it 5/16, does anyone know the width of the bolt that the cable connect to on the starter?

That nut needs a 12 metric wrench, can't remember the size of stud. Just be sure you have enough space so that there is no arcing if you change ring terminals.

I might use the original ring terminal. I'll see when I replace the cable.

Another question though. On the top end, where the cable connect to the battery. There are actually two cables connected to the terminal... one goes to the starter, but where does the other one go? I tried following it, but they both go into a wiring loom about 6-8 inches from the terminal on the battery.

That's your fusible link. There will come a day when you get really acquainted with it. It can be replaced with stranded 16 gauge wire if the need arises. It powers most of the car.
