Cooling Fan & Charge Lights
This cold weather isn't good on MR2s, it seems to create more and more problems. This just started recently. The 'Cool Fan' and 'Charge' lights both flicker at idle, after the car is warmed up. It goes away anytime I hit the gas.
I checked the belt on the alternator, and it's pretty much brand new. I cleaned the terminals and battery posts, with no luck. I switched out the battery for a known good one, also no bueno. The engine speed also affects the alternator speed, when the gas is pressed the lights go off. My guess is the alternator is on its way out the door. Does this seem to be a good diagnosis given the testing done and the symptoms? |

Update: Turns out it is either the alternator or the voltage regulator, which happens to be inside the alternator.
Couldn't find anything online regarding the lights themselves flashing, but researching the assumed alternator as the problem confirms the symptoms. Thanks anyway, I plan to replace the alternator a.s.a.p, I just need to find an alternator to replace it with - hopefully it lasts at least a few days. I actually found out through a google search, but I should've checked other places first. Here's a link to a writeup on replacing the alternator, in case anyone else needs it.
