Distributor Rebuild
So my car has been leaking oil like a stuck pig, and I'm pretty sure I've narrowed down the problem to the valve cover seal and the distributor. So I purchased the rebuild kit from Twos R Us - Distributor Rebuild Kit, and I have read the write-up by MKI MR2 Write-ups
Has anyone done this rebuild before, and if so are there any specifics I need to know about that aren't covered in the previous write up? |

i have an mk2 5SFE, i know they are different motors but i am having the same issue. i got the rebuild kit, but while i had the dizzy off the car i figured i'd test it per the BGB and it ended up being WAY out of spec (about 100 ohms over!) so i had to replace it anyway.
so i would advise you to test it per the manual before rebuilding because you might not be able to save it... good luck! |

How do you get that little pin out of the gear? Do you actually have to drill it out?
I'm just tearing mine apart because i broke it, and thought i'd either keep the innards for a spare, or sell em and recoup part of the cost of the new distributor. |

I just finished a rebuild on mine with the same kit. Following the guide, the install went nice and easy and fixed the leaking problem. I started with a small drill bit for the pin and worked my way up until I finished drilling it out. I couldn't find the tools around here to pull the bearing off and press it back on (mine was seized up pretty bad) so I took it to a machine shop for that part and did the rest myself. Machine shop labor was right at $30. Just take your time on the drilling. You don't want to have to be sourcing a distributor from the junkyard for a replacement shaft. Hope it goes well for you.
