what clutch would you get?
my mr2 has less responsiveness between the engine/wheels while getting into gear, and i smell tranny fluid after hard drives. i know i'm going to fix this problem over the summer, so am i right when i suspect its the clutch? if so does anyone know of a good deal for 1?

I got one from pep boys which was an oem replacement. 3k miles on it and no problems. It cost me $100 and a weekend to put it in but it went well.

I'm in the same boat as you, except my boat is sinking
. It started as you're describing, movement speed not matching the engine speed. I did a lot of troubleshooting before determining it was the clutch and only a matter of time. This was about 6-7 months ago and my time has come, it is officially slipping when pushing the throttle in too hard (any gear, almost any speed).I'd planned on trying to do it myself, but I'm not sure how well that's going to go over. I'm most likely going to get an Exedy OEM clutch kit, and either resurface the flywheel or get a new one. Good luck to you though . |

I just bought an Exedy OEM replacement for my NA MKII. I don't recommend undertaking a clutch replacement unless you have small hands, a full set of tools and a friend to help you out. The feel of the clutch is really nice and it doesn't make any sort of noise.

I paid $100. That was because i was at a friends shop and they ordered it for me and gave it to me for their price. I'm pretty sure list would be around 150.

Autozone, lifetime warranty.
I hate Autozone, but I bought a clutch there before I knew better. I paid around $100 for it, it comes with everything, disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and an alignment tool. I get free replacements for as long as I own the car now. I have replaced it three times now, never had an issue other than a throwout bearing that wasnt packed with grease............................................ .......... BUT, they replaced it for free, and everytime I need to drop my tranny I double check my clutch and can replace it as often as I would like. Just check the throwout bearing before you install it, make sure it feels well lubed, and spins freely. Oh, and you dont have to keep your receipt. They take your phone number and they look up your warranty with that whenever you replace your clutch. |

OEM/exedy seems to be the way to go unless there is a specific reason such as high hp. I have put them in a day before racing and thrashed all the next day with no settling in time and still no issues.
