Wtf Over Priced? Or Am I Just Retarded?
Soo.. i went to an old junkyard today. After serching like 200 cars i finally found the Beauty there.. An 86 Mr2... It looked pretty decent. I feel in love with the hood. It's the one with the Mr2 sig right in the middle and it Still has the Emblem. Mine has neither. Also, not in to bad shape. I also got one of the seatbelt fastern things, Where you click the seat belt thing into. Because i found sombody online to Swap an Mr2 seats for my Trd racing seats.
He just forgot to put the passenger side part back on. So.. I have that and a hood. $110 bucks.. Over priced, or am i just retarded? lol. (i hate being poor) I am Also FINALLy getting my master & slave cylinder replaced as well as my Tranny fluid drained and replaced. 250 bucks!.. wtf.? 60 bucks an hour labor and the Master- Slave- and Tranny fluid each said 1.10 hours. Bull ****... Damn i hate being stupid about cars. |

Ummm... you got a good deal on the hood.I found a mr2 front clip so i bought the hood for $200 bucks you didn't get riped off.for the slave cylinder & master you could of done the work your self not that hard to tell you the truth. Did you go to a junkyard where you pull your own parts ? those are usually cheaper

When I had to put the slave cyl back on after I did my clutch I got frustrated. Those 2 bolts were the hardest part of doing the clutch for me. It took me about 2 hours to get them in. I wanted to give up on it just because of them. I guess I could see 250 shop charge but I wouldn't pay that. I would learn how to do it before pay 250 for it. That's just my $.02.

o.Yes, went to a junk yard. Only 1 mr2 there tho =( But it was an 86 so im good. Also, where/how would i rip out the front light motor? When my buddy put the front piece of my kit on, the light tryed to go down, but couldn't so the motor blew then. I need one but i have no idea where it's up up front or how to get it our or hook it up.
BTW. i found a Hayness manual in the mr2 at the junkyard : ) I brought it home with me.. haha |

Jack up the front and take the plastic pieces under the lights off. 4 10mm bolts I think. Then look up. Take the arm off the motor I think it's a 14mm nut. Then there are I think 2 more bolts holding that motor in then unplug it and replace. Thats how I did it. I didn't think there was any better way but it worked for me.

Also, quick question, since this topic is still being looked at somewhat,.. Wire Mesh. For my kit. Any idea where i can get ahold of some locally? As in major stores carrying it? I called Advanced Auto and AutoZone, neither has it anymore. So i'm clueless.
-- BRB- gonna run to the junk yard (5 miles away) and try to replace the motor. Thanks Mr3 : ) Sounds simple enough. |

My $0.02 Worth
Pass on the hood, at least for now. Spend the $100 on some good tools, maybe first a decent toolbox to store them. Then attempt the Clutch Master cylinder yourself, it is surprisingly quick and easy. Remember to bleed the system, and the clutch might need to be adjusted. This is also very easy, look under the clutch pedal and U will see the adjuster.
Read the repair manual at least a couple of times. Best wishes Kerry |

Im Back : ) I got the hood, the light motor, a small center console and a wheel cover. All together cost me 140 bucks. So not bad. My car looks a hell of alot better.. o and the Passenger seat belt thing, the piece that you put the belt into. lol.
Quick question, again, Is they're a certain fuse for the Brake lights? Cause i've seen the 3 spots where all the fuses are and can't figure out if the back lights are all One fuse or a few. Just trying to figure out a way to Not have a mechanic make me pay a giant bill for fixing them. Also, the guy that took out the motor, took him like 15 mins. The small black pieces that go around the light were already ripped out (mines broke, and they had 1, just happened to be the wrong side =(.. ) It looked difficult and i'm half afraid to start working on it and **** up my entire lights.. Damn And my friend just a week ago got shipped off for the Army, and he left me his giant box of tools, so ... We'll, not Giant, but a good sized box that fills my trunk up. Thanks for the help everybody. |

kerry, angelfox already bought the stuff
and paid for the shop.Angelfox like the other users here said read the haynes manual, it'll tell you where the right fuse is and all sorts of good stuff, and don't drive that car until you get the brake lights working, seriously, because if someone rear ends you, it'll be YOUR fault, and it'll go on YOUR record, and YOUR insurance, and you won't have a car. Good to hear that you got the tranny fluid flushed and the clutch master and slave replaced. How's the transmission feeling now? EDIT: I love that hood |

Naw, i'm getting the tranny fluid replaced and cylinders replaced Tonight/Tomorrow, it'll be at the shop. I've been driving for the past week with no brake lights.... Seriously, i HATE driving without them. People always like Inches from my ass and i'm always flying WAY to fast around turns. So usally i just speed like a demon and get a good distance away from the car behind me before i turn.
Damn. Just reading this.. Makes me feel like a dumbass... WOW =( |

That hood and decal look in pretty good shape. I used to work with a guy who had a black 1987 with a white version of that decal. Strange since I think that it was only available up to 86.
If you want metal wire mesh and don't want to get too fancy you can go to someplace like Home Depot and buy a big sheet of the metal mesh that is used to provide structure and strength to plaster walls and cement flooring. It comes in large sheets but it can be folded up to fit in the trunk. My FX front air damn came with a few cut pieces and I realized that the same stuff could be bought for cheap at home supply stores. Careful as the edges of the sheet are sharp. Damn you snaked a really nice hood! I love the graphic on it.
One thing to keep in mind is you can transplant all the good stuff on your current car over to the next MKI. That's what I did, I couldn't bear to sell my old N.A. with all of its upgrades on it. So I took them off, and swapped them over to the SC converted MKI I bought. |
