need some info

What the hell is a NA car or a 20vs or a black top? I am new here and would like to learn as much as I can about my car. I know that it is not supercharged, and it is an 86 with a 85 eng. in it. I also belive that this is the same eng. that is in the ae86, is that right. Also what kind of mods can we do to the car and eng? Thanks for any info you can give, I bought the car a few months ago and paid 2800 for it. The car is in overall great condition, but there are some things to fix. I also have not had the chance to take any pics because the weather sux here in KS and it seams that when I do wash and wax it it rains or the wind picks up and blows dust all over it.

I also wanted to know how to install a 3" cone filter and where to bracket the AMF (i think that is what it is called), and is it really worth all the effort it put it on?

NA means naturally aspirated, which means there's no turbo or supercharger, the blacktop 20v is a newer version of the 4age (the engine you've got) that has black cam covers, variable valve timing, and a couple other things that are different.

Yes your engine pretty well the same engine as in the ae86, it just has a few little differences.

What do you mean when you ask where to bracket the AFM? just leave it alone is what i did, it's not totally worth it, but it does free up a little bit of power and looks better imo, and is the cheapest mod you can do to the engine.

And i REALLY REALLY hate to say it, but SEARCH, these are some REALLY basic questions that you could probably find in no time flat on google and wikipedia, together those are a great tool for finding stuff out about this car.

As for mods, it's the same as any engine

This is starting from the beginning. Well to start yes the engine is the same as the ae86, they have some key differences but for now just I'll just leave it at they are the same. N/A = naturally aspirated (not turbo or supercharged) and 20V refers to the 4age with the 20V head that has 5 valves per cylinder which is strange but they go well. A blacktop is a 20V just an easy way of saying what generation.

You have the US 16v engine with the afm (air flow meter, that box on the intake pipe). The mods you can do to that engine are intake, a free flow exhaust, weight reduction (helps handling as well). After that you need to fork out a bit more for things like cams and planing the head but a swap is easier at that point.

As for putting the intake on your car a pic of the bay would help. From what I see people have a very short strong pipe to the afm and that holds it and then route the piping to the cone filter wherever they put that.

Thanks guys, good to know this info. I have seen kits that are running $100 plus, but I have also seen all the bits bby themselves for a lot cheeper. But the thing I always see and hear is that you need to make a bracket for the afm.
