88 Supercharged for sale on CL $500

I saw this add on CL and thought that someone might be intersted. It's not my car. It has 136K miles, blue interior, and a slavaged title. The guy told me that the car has been sitting for 3 years and doesn't run. He sent me some more pics and it doesn't seem as bad as he makes it out to be.

I saw that the other day in my CL browsing...

If I lived closer I might have swung by and taken a look but it's a long way away.

I think so...

You could swap the vins from another car and do it... thats not remotely legal though

I think that this guy just doesn't even know what kind of gem he's got

Yes. A salvaged title just means that the car was in an accident and the insurance company wrote it off as totalled. The owner then decided to buy it back, fix it, and keep it as a salvaged title.

The registration will say SALVAGED on it, and it has to get a new licence plate. Having the car registered as a salvage title is primarily to protect any future buyers, so they know the car was once in an accident and totalled.

Um... If he drove it illegally for a long time the car might not even be possible to register in some states...

Ya, it didn't protect me! It wasn't written on the transfer slips, and when the chick at the insurance place took the old registration/printed out the new one failed to mention/notice it!!!!

I was pretty pissed off when i found out, a couple months later, not because of the fact that it might be damaged (because it drives straight and perfect) but because it's going to kill the re-sale value of the car

You plan on selling your car? That's the last thing I want to do with my car. If I'm going to get another car, I might park the mr2 but I'm not going to sell it. The way I look at it is I have about 2500 into the car but I'd be lucky to get 1500 back. Just like any car. Plus the market for mr2's is pretty crappy imo. Not many people around me seem to like these types of cars anymore. There was a big swing from old japanese cars to higher end cars like bmw's and audi's where I live.

I'd be pissed to if I found out my car was wrecked before I bought it just for the fact that no one told me. Just like how I was pissed at the PO when he said everything is perfect and then I was underneath it replacing the clutch a week later.

I assume that's talking to me right? lol

But no i don't plan on it, definitely not right now for sure. But i always try to keep re-sale value in mind when i do things to my car.

If i did go and try to sell my car i wouldn't get much for it, because it's missing the side skirts and cosmetically some of the body doesn't look to great, so if i went and sold it today, i really don't think i'd ever manage to get $1500 out of it, even though i've just sunk in 1500 dollars or so in the past few months. And it kind of irks me because i KNOW i'd most likely get even less once people see that rebuilt status. So you can kind of imagine how i feel when i put money into my car and i get even less of a return than you would on a car that doesn't have that status

too bad I just bought a parts car....

I'm actually really close... work about 30 miles from Marysville too....

I would be concerned about the 'motor is crap' part, though...

The last thing I care about is the resale value on my mr2, I do what I want and screw anybody else. Its my car and I make it to my tastes, that is why I own it so I can do what I want. That involves burnouts, donuts, repaints, interior mods, new lights, exhaust, intake etc etc etc Be a man and mod your car to be worth less DO IT!
