motor swap 89 to a 85 mr2 need all the info i can get?
need to know anything that is going to be a prob in the motor and tranny swap form a 89 to a 85 do i need to take the comp to or what let me know

The engine will bolt in fine. The only differences are in the fuel rail and in the egr system AFAIK. I ended up using the ecu, harness and fuel rail from my 86 and this worked out fine. The only difference in the egr is the position of the pipe where it attaches to the exhaust manifold.
I could be forgetting some things, but if you can use the 85 electronics all will be fine. -Travis |

It is definitely a straight forward deal. The airboxes are different between the 2 as the 87-89 filter sits in the trunk. I remember a few other things but it has been like 9 years ago since I messed around with a 1st gen mr2. I would agree to use the electronics from the car the motor is going in. This is always the easiest way if it is possible.
