Push the clutch to a stop and it stalls??? hhmmm maybe your idle is set too low? or maybe you dont put it on nuetral enough and let the clutch go before you are on completely stop. Need more practice driving manual tranny? hehehehehe j/k

you know what i meant lol, as in when i push clutch in to down shift to slow down as soon as my car is around 2,000 rpms in second i hit clutch in to throw it in first but when i do the Rpms drop straight down... when cars warmed up my Idle is at about 1000-900 and when its cold its around 1,500 rpms which is fine but when i got my car Smoged he said i failed Timing only i dont understand how to fix it myself last time Arco tried somthing and i lost all power to car... dunno what happened i tried the whole soap/water in bottle when cars on to see if theres any vacumm leaks but nothing i can see...

I just wanna pass smog so i can register my car and drive it im tired of it sitting in my backyard after i just bought it 3 weeks ago

So you mean you downshift to first while the car is still rolling?!? Ummm... I thought you weren't supposed to do that.

No i guess i didn't know what you meant, i seriously thought it was your idle

If you don't know how to set your timing then just get a shop to do it, I don't like to touch the timing personally. I got toyota to do mine, simple, in, out, done.

How does the car idle, is it smooth or rough? And you said you passed all the tests except timing? Where any areas of the emissions test a little weak?

If the timing is off i think it can cause a bit of a rough idle as well.

daym.... push the clutch in, put it on neutral to a complete stop.. Why even do downshift engine braking to 2nd then 1st to a complete stop? Your brakes dont work or something? I think its the driver not the car LoL....... Yeah i've seen your other thread where you said the shop says everything is good (timing etc.....) hehehheheee

The idle isnt bad 1,500 cold and when its warm its at 1,000-900 and car sounds smooth accept for rattle from altnernator some reason it likes to rattle ever since i left it at arco ... I found a really good review on a shop called Walts Auto Service specializing on Hondas and Toyotas so im gonna try them out for getting timing fixed.

Yeah, what I do is 2nd until I almost stop then neutral. When I have to move, that's when I put it in 1st.

I checked my Smog i failed because my ignition timing was off so i bought a timing light and my manual for the 85 mr2 and saw that my timing was way off causing my car to backfire so i set it to 10 were it was suppose to and car doesnt back fire anymore and runs really smooth idle when its warm is at 850 went to get smoged and passed. Guess it pays to do it myself instead of paying someone else.

Good to hear it passed smog, sad to hear you think it's having more issues. How loud is the clicking?

I don't know about these cars having lots of problems though. I know they sort of do, but thats because people drive the hell out of them, but i think the 4age is a pretty good engine.
