Has anyone ever seen this type of center console? I have looked through tons of pics of MK1's and i have never seen another one like it.

deffinately a custom thing. If you look at the first picture, the first cubby is almost all taken up by this addition.
Looks a lot like the miata arm rests. What's in the middle column down the center of the car anyhow? seems awfully tall for a bit of wires and cables! |

Also the coolant and heater lines.
Actually, that's where the driveshaft for the front wheels is, because as we all know, all imports are FWD ![]() Last edited by ebouwman; 04-16-2009 at 01:34 AM.. |

I personally think it looks uncomfortable. The way the car is now, my elbow sits perfectly onto the armrest and to the shifter. With that I would think it would be like raising your shoulder up a little bit making it not as comfortable as stock.

gas tank & lines, coolant lines, heater core lines, a/c lines (if you have a/c), ebrake cables, throttle cable, speedometer cable.....
shifter cables are in the car under the plastic. that is an aftermarket piece.... if you look at the last photo you can see the mold of the stock piece under it. |

Actually it came from Toyota like that. The car was purchased new from Toyota in 86 and that was how it came. Maybe it was a dealer install but all the material is exactly the same as the radio surround. It's only about 2 or 2.5 inches deep and mounts with 3 screws down to the center console factory location. |

Actually it's not uncomfortable and provides additional storage space. I guess if you had a short shifter maybe it would get in the way. |

first photo of one I have ever seen like that..... if it's "factory" then it was the dealership doing something aftermarket - it didn't come from the factory like that.

It doesn't look like it would be to hard for an upholsterer to make.
but the stitching even in a leather interior isn't like that, I think Toyota would have it matching. |

It is not stock. It could be a dealer creation. I bought my first MR2 new from the dealer in Oct '85, right at the model change- thought I was getting an 85 but got an 86. I went over all the options for both those years and that was not one of them.
