MK1 Cup Holder pictures
I know how much of pain is not having cup holders. This is how I added some to my car. I bought this a while back (years back) at target I think. I don't know who may have them now, but it works and here's the information too. Mine is now broken from people sitting on it and well, you know what I mean if you have a car this small. I really need to get a center console for the small junk I keep in them though. So I thought I give you an idea on how to get something that works. Well you guys are in luck I found their link here and they still make them. Enjoy.

Nope...
They hold my drinks so that's all that matters unless you like to lay your drinks on the seat then who am I to judge.
Plus they're not permanent so I can swap them for something better if that ever happens, but I won't hold my breath on that. |

No cup holders is my biggest beef with this car. This doesn't look like a bad solution. I suppose where you put it is the best place to put this style of cup holder? If you bought another one just like it would you put it in the same place?

Well...
I thought about building something on the right side of the radio since that's the only other place that may be out of the way, but then it would be a project and this works and stays in place. I thought about the top of the radio, but I rather leave that for anything else in case I ever make anything there. Plus you don't want to have drinks above the radio anyway. My brother used to have a car that had them there and we were always spilling drinks on the radio. But you're right it was a pain not having anything until I got it. I've had it for a couple of years so it works well. Except with my bicycle water bottle. It's too big at the bottom, but then again that one is closed at the top so you can set it on the seat. I know it's not the prettiest thing, but function comes first in this one unfortunately. When I got it I wasn't even looking for this. I had pretty much given up on getting anything and I just happen to be walking by at the store and saw this. I figured this might work so I bought it.

MR2s came without cup holders for a reason. The Japanese and Europeans have different ideas about cars than Americans. While driving you need to be driving and save food and drinks for the dining table. I could be the teapot calling the kettle black. Because I drink and eat all day long in my 4runner which come with cupholders.

Actually no...
You're right about that. Eating should be left for when you're stopped. I just use it to hold my water/ soda most of the time. But sometimes I too do the same thing as everyone else. So your answer is the most sensible one that I also have to agree with. Then again maybe that's why I prefer home made cooking from someone that enjoys cooking than anything you can eat in the car. Had way too many of that rush food already. Plus it helps you fit in your car not eating all that junk anyway, not to mention keep you safe and everyone else.

Maybe I should use my mr2 more often to loose some weight. I have to get it running first.

Cups are the worst thing to carry in your car. In the mk1 a bottle will fit perfectly between the seat and the door on the drivers side , just remember it's there before you open the door.

Cup holders...
I totally agree with the japanese and europeans on that one. I can't stand when people get in my car with drinks, it drives me up a wall, the guy who owned my MR2 before me spilled coffee on the passanger side. |

I use this in my 91. It would probably work in a mk1. When not in use it retracts under the seat.

Do you have any links and pictures or more info on those under the seat cup holders you got there? I like that out of the way, but I'm not sure I can reach that well. I'm not a midget but I'm not tall either.
![]() As for the door space, I tried that until I completely forgot I had a drink there and just spilled it all over when I opened the door before I got my cup holder. So I don't recommend doing that. It's just too easy to forget. As for cleaning the seats. Mine were pretty bad too when I first got the car, so I took it to a car wash and had them clean the seats and carpet. Turned out pretty good too. Quote:

^It's on the passenger side. If I have a male passenger, he can hold my coffee. If the passenger is female, the cupholder works fine.

Well...
I think this would be for when your by yourself.
I would do that same thing with whoever was on that seat. One more question for you, what are the cup holders from, car, company, etc.? I'm assuming you just added the brackets, but since I don't know I have to ask. It is pretty creative though. And I like that last part of your sentence there...never even crossed my mind until I read that for the third time. ![]() Yeah I kind of figured it was just something that was from another car.
