T-tops or Sunroof?
So I currently have a 85 Mr2 with the sunroof that I am bringing back to life. The body is in good shape and everything is there. I have the opportunity to buy a t-top mr2 for like 200-300 bucks... it needs alot of the body work replaced but it's structurally sound. It's engine is good but tranny is bad.
My question is one in Handling... The Mr2 will be a second car for me something i'll drive everyday but can be worked on for a few weeks without affecting my daily life... I plan to auto cross it and I wanted to know if the t-tops affect the handling in such a negative way that I would be better off staying with the sunroof version... I plan to be doing as much as possible to improve the car in any aspect so if I can mod the t-top version to the same level then I'm ok with that... Just curious what others think on the differences between the two... I realize that switching everything over to the t-top car would be alot of work... that doesn't bother me at all as I enjoy doing it... I'm more interested in the end result... Thanks Brandon |

I would think the sunroof car is the better option , besides t-tops are a pain.

T-tops are a pain, but I still love mine! I think you will get more strength (less flex) With a hardtop/sunroof then with a T-top model.
They also are less loud from what I hear. |

There are problems with t-tops but it's true 80's style which makes the car stand out from the rest of the pack. Some leak which isnt fun. I could see how some would say they are a pain because to take them off it takes an extra few minutes before driving but they are fun. Usually after I get out of class I roll down the windows and then fold the pass seat forward, then pop the pass side t-top and put it behind the seat. Then the drivers side top goes on the pass side floor/seat area. It would help if my cold start equip worked and parking brake worked but they dont so that's the way I do it or I take the extra minute to do it the right way.
I never drove a hardtop mr2 so I cant compare the t-top version but the t-top car is very nimble. I am not a racer so I cant give you good feedback on that but I'm sure either version would be good for you. |

depends on where you live....
if in WA get the sunroof.... have yet to see an mr2's stock sunroof leak.... have yet to see a stock aw11's t-tops not leak.... you could go my route.... we have a hardtop, a sunroof, and soon the t-top will be on the road ![]() |

I had a T-top 87 before it got wrecked and never ever opened them up. I've been driving a sunroof 87 which I like a lot since you can leave it partially open for ventilation. It can get pretty hot out here in SoCal and it opens really quick.
