Thankyou for all the advice. Why ! because when I saw the red convertible that was just totally cool! I will be installing a roll bar and a under body X brace + a 3sgte

Sounds like you have a plan, at least you arent just cutting the roof off and calling it a day.

Thats what i was thinking, but still! Not a huge fan of the idea. But if you know what your doing in terms of adding the bracing it wouldn't be so bad, and the 3sgte there to add some needed (and a lot of un-needed) power to compensate for weight.

i realize this is old and not that i would ACTUALLY do it to my mr2 unless i just had an extra one, but where about would you weld your supports in if you started with a t-top? put in a roll cage first and then cut the roof off? was kinda thinking about it and thought id ask.

curvesrgood should invest in a convertible. You have enough vehicles! Where do you put them all??

yes, i've had mine since it was new (my mom is the original owner) i have a 1985 N/A MR2 convertible and my dad did it himself in the 80's it looks identical to the red one however i know what went into making it work without compromising rigidity and ride. If you have some questions PM me and i will try to help best i can

to me, taking away an mr2's rigidity, and therefore its awesome handling charactaristics, in any way, shape, or form, is like taking an old firebird with a 455 and putting a geo metro engine in it. it takes away the best part of the car, and you will only be laughed at.

Mine still handles great! My chassis is reinforced long ways/front to back and diagonally, it feels just as rigid as my friends 87 N/A t-top. We used to race each other on certain roads near us and i was able to keep up with him threw each turn. Although if you don't reinforce the chassis the the car will without a doubt be less rigid and feel like its bending threw turns.

but then you're adding weight. I could see this if you must have a convt but i don't expect it to handle the same. Interesting idea but its not for me.

AW11-85MR2

I think we met at the Pep Boys last year.
You saw my 2 in the lot and found me inside.

Glad to see you still have it
