Automatic trans? sounds challenging!!

Yours is the first automatic car problem I have seen on the Forum in a very long time.

Your service manual indicates several preliminary things can be done to isolate exactly where your real problem exists:

1. Prelimiary CheckConfirms transmission)
a. warm engine to operating temp, shift into all gears and return to park.
b. Check the transmssion oil dipstick level. Must be in "Hot" range only.

2. Read ECT Diagnostic CodeElectronic diagnosis)
a. Turn ignition switch and Overdrive botton to on.
b. Taking a bent paper clip push one end into the ect hole and the other end into E1 hole at the diagnostic port (on the engine compartment rear wall directly behind the driver)--see the enclosed photo
c. Read the number and frequency of the blinking light at the O/D OFF location on the left side of the instrument panel-see second photo

3. Manual Shift TestECT computer check)
a. pull off the rear trunk panel (engine side, of course)
b. with engine off, disconnect the ECT computer
c. check the console shift indicator and see if the gearsift lever matches the
gears when driving through every gear

Ok, I scanned all the AT Toubleshooting items noted in the manual and your problem is not listed, sorry.(grinding in Park)
I suggest you phone a local transmission shop and see if anyone can advise you verbally of possible problems WITHOUT having to take the car to them. Once we have an idea of what to look for we may be able to address this/these issues.

The issue of the "all electrical goes out" needs more explaining as to what goes out, when, how often, what triggers this condition, how have you resolved this previously.

I can be reached thru the members directory, or you can respond to this posting and the Club will notify me of your email.

Good luck, this is not an easy system to deal with. Be patient and we may be able to address this problem without spending 100's of $.

PS the "bar" you referred to is the tachometer indicator needle right?
