May sound stupid but its my first mr2
Hows it going everyone,
Well when i bought my 86 mr2, the speedometer wasn't working. When i took the cable out, the metal pin that connects to the tranny broke from the cable. So i bought a brand new one from this company that replaces speed cables and it came with warranty. When i go it replaced the speedometer was working but not smoothly. Like when i accelerate the needle it does move but it bounces so i cant get a accurate reading. Like its my first mr2 i dont know if its normal for this car |

No. Speed should be smooth and accurate.

A little WD 40 is a good start. You need to push it in several times, each time wiping it clean with a cloth on extraction.
Then coat the entire cable with grease from a tube of Lithium Grease. Its possible to apply too much grease, so a thin coat over the entire length of the cable is desirable. WD40 dries out in a very short time (days), and the problem will re-occur. Good Luck. |

Jackstand has it right here, WD40 will dry out and the cable will gall to the housing. The needle is - was bouncing due to being too dry. Lithium or Moly grease is the only way to go.
