Your Odometer reading?

So I'm looking at getting an 1987 MR2 with 265,000 miles.
its $1700.

how many miles does your MR2 have?

Should I be worried about having lots of issues?

145,000 or so. I swapped out the odometer but I paid 1,700 for mine a year ago and it was in decent shape. The kid before me said he put a newer jdm engine in it but it was just an original bluetop. I'll be doing the 20v swap in a few weeks I hope.

IMHO odometer reading doesn't mean much....

yes, with time and miles bushings and suspension can wear, things like t-top/sunroof/door/engine lid etc seals can crack yadda yadda yadda....

but I've seen some cars with 100K miles that are piles and cars with nearly 300K on the clock nearly perfect....

plus on these cars -- it all depends on what the previous owner(s) have done with the car. At our house the only vehicle that I know of that has a correct odo reading is our truck... which is an 86 f150 with 96k original miles -- and it's a giant POS -- when I got it it had bad wiring problems, bad wiper motor, brake lines were rusted out, all brake hydraulics were shot, battery was bad, battery cables were bad, rad has a leak, bed is rusting out, both bumpers have been run into something at low speeds, front fenders are dented, etc etc etc..... I have an aw11 in the garage that I just put a fresh 7age into... the body has 260K on it but has only one sizeable dent (smaller than a fist) and almost no dings....

Further, when a car sits things can become stagnant and have problems as well, so lower mileage isn't always a praise.

so, in conclusion -- mileage doesn't mean a whole lot. Get some history on the car to see what has or hasn't been done then try to get a feel for the car (how it runs, stops, corners, etc).

I know it is a beaut, rare concave doors, 30 tone paint job sponsered by other racers, special suspension angle setup, staggered track length and a tyre matched seperately to each wheel by size.

not to mention otto special two pieces wheels
a roll cage in the car and an additional roll cage on the front bumper
the "oh thats what that bolt held on" award
and the award for "worst outcome of a forgotten dipstick"

oh and cant forget the " why did i let her drive moments"

personally i have the best timed though process
whilst lapping taupo i though to my self **** these slicks arent to bad in the rain, 40meters or track later 60kph and a concrete block wall disagreed

I've seen 4ag's with over 200K still have factory honing marks....

bouncing idle does not mean a BHG....

bouncing idle can mean one of the following:

ignition timing is off
air bubble in coolant
vacuum leak post afm
tps is bad

and I've seen 20,000 mile motors with 1mm bore lip. All in how it was maintained and if it did lots of cold starts and short runs.
