Mine hasn't worked since I got the car. I just use my key in the trunk lid.

yeh, changing that cable is a must especially if you end up locking ur key inside your trunk like I did, luckily I got lucky and my neighbor that works at toyota hooked me up with a spare key =]

The cable ends tend to pop off of the handle under the carpet. You might want to check that before you buy a new cable.

Mine stretched and popped off. Went for a few years and didn't do anything about it. Then reconnected it on the handle and tightened up the slack in the rear. Worked for another month or so then failed again so I gave up. May try to fix it again since totally replacing the cable with a new one is a real pain.
