Starting probs some time's

Ok my 86 auto n/a mr2 is letting me down. Some time I will come out to her and hit the key and nothing. no click no nothing. the car act just like if you are trying to start it in drive or gear. I may leave it for a bit and try again in it cranks just fine. ( with out touching a thing).

I have put in a new starter new batt. checked all the thermals. and ground. From what I can see all are good.

I'm thinking neutral safety switch? any other thoughts.

no it wouldn't start in neutral. tested the neutral switch and it tested good. So I replased the starter. So far so good. I'm guessing a bad spot in the starter. When we pulled it out the block was cool to the touch and the starter was still warm. At this point I'm beat.

Is this manual transmission? Maybe the start switch under the brake pedal went bad or is loose?

its a auto. I think the starter had a bad solenoid or some thing. Put a new starter on and so far so good.
