i have, since my last post, made arangements to bottle it all up and take it to the local auto place to be desposed of. i was pretty sure it was a bad idea. i went out and bought a mile of tube for the bleeders and some jack stands for the ass of the car even. i want to get this done as perfect as possible. ill go get me some of that flush tomarrow.

all they have is this random flush stuff. where can i get some good stuff?

if your only goal is reliability -- then either maintain your 16V (including extensive checks to see the shape of the motor) or find a quality 16V. Parts are easily obtained and it was available in the US. If you want more power, then as the rule of thumb goes the more power the less reliable -- so again it all depends on what you want.

If the car is plenty fast for you but you want a slight increase -- find a smallport 4age.

But in terms of a swap, I tend to think of a swap being done for performance. I would choose a gze (or a 16v with an M65 or something like that... which I'll be helping another AW11 owner with soon) over a 20V any day.

yeah for illegal 4agze! well my only input is that if the mr2 is your daily driver go with the 20v for fuel economy and reliability, but if its like a joy ride car like mine get the gze its so much fun when you hit peak boost and the honda hasnt even left the line!

standalone, 101 gze..... s/c on a switch... when off, I get over 40mpg on the freeway..... haven't seen a 20V do that yet!

electromagnetic clutches make things great.

me? at the time I was running an E51..... untuned on MS..... and that 40mpg is very conservative.... I haven't really driven it too far with the C series in it, but cruise rpm speed isn't all that far off from the E51. Has more to do with the poor incoming airflow and low compression. The car is dog slow on the freeway with the s/c off.

That's one thing I liked when I was running a haltech e6k on my 20v back 7 years ago. You could set the stoichiometric o2 voltage, and let the ecu adjust around it. I put it down around 400mv, and was getting better economy than the stock ecu. I don't think I ever quite made 40 though. The lower compression probably helps.

lol, out of this entire 10 month old thread that's what you pick up...

toyota (factory) s/c's use an electromagnetic clutch.... much like an a/c compressor... it has an outer pulley that free spins when off and when on the inner pulley grabs and the s/c rotors will spin.

I wired the switch out of necessity in my car. on a stock s/c car I wouldn't do this.

Yeah switching the SC is silly at least and particularly on the stock ECU.
