Usually you go by feel. If you are just driving around town not trying to race and go balls out, around 3000 rpms. If you are trying to go fast and zip around, higher rpms.

if your trying to conserve fuel and drive like a granny anywhere between 2500 and 3000 but as mentioned above if your trying to go fast then about 6500 should work just fine.
