Power window gear replacement

Wouldn't you know that after "only" 340,000 miles my power window started to make hesitation jerking and finally died halfway up several days later.

After pulling the window regulator out I found a broken gear, the one attached to the motor.

Being the kind of guy that doesn't believe in replacing what's not broken I found another gear for sale from a mr2 supply business for less than $20. Replacing the gear was a snap.

Here's what the gear and the regulator looked like for those of you who have not made the repair, yet.

The next window gear I will replace will be the 5th one.

And I'm not looking forward to it.

What was the name of the online store that sold the gear? You have a web address?

MR2tim;
Is it necessary to take out the everything in order to get to just the motor? Maybeeee, just remove the glass?

It is possible to remove the regulator without taking the glass out, but you'll have to tape it up securely so it doesn't fall on your hands.

You might be able to do the job only taking the front side of the regulator loose, and finagle the motor to where you can reach it. Where the motor sits in the door, you can't reach anything.

Sorry Greg, not really.

The motor is bolted to the regulator.The regulator is bolted to the door, of course, but to loosen the motor while it's in there even with the glass out would be a big, big challenge.

However, the good news is that the glass need not be removed to get that regulator out, as diro noted, and change the motor!!

I might suggest you have a helper to manage the glass panel upon reinstalltion. Be really sure to wear Gloves!!

I hope you read this entire thread and know that many repairs that seem like a motor are in fact a gear failure.

You can do this, go slow, allow lots of time to reduce mistakes.
