I bought mine stripped out. It's pretty cool actually, I'm sure it makes for a world of difference in how it feels, as far as acceleration and handling!
The only thing to keep in mind, is that it won't be as livable as a car with a full interior. For starters, you will hear EVERYTHING. Exhaust, road noise, mechanical workings, all will be as clear as if it was happening in the seat next to you. IMHO, gutting daily driven car is just not a good idea (for the average person). Mine is a weekend car, and I even consider myself a bit of an extremist when it comes to sports cars and the "less is more" mentality. lol HTH Last edited by Lil Blue Bastard; 08-20-2009 at 05:52 PM.. |

I managed to gut nearly 250 lbs from my MkI and relocate the battery in the process.
Yet, I have door panels, pounds of sound insulation, full dash etc. full carpeting etc. I put in lighter seats, and steering wheel, replaced the spare with a can of fix a flat, put in Hunsaker seats, replaced the exhaust from header flange to tail pipe. And many other small deletions, or lighter replacements. Gutting the interior to lose weight isn't the only way to go. |

Weight loss
If your car is STRICTLY a racer, yeah strip the interior, otherwise IMHO leave it alone! The dash, trim pieces, door panels would NOT add up to 10 pounds.
With the utmost respect, I do not know how/believe the 250lb weight loss. The entire AC might weigh 40 pounds or so, now if U pulled the bumpers offf, that would be major weight savings. Kerry |
