My Google Map

Damn have to get my speedo fixed I was driving a pushrod 1500cc ford laser today

I looked at the celica speedo and I think I could get it to work but it just looks like too much work I would need to figure out wiring and retro fit it to the mkI cluster which is not too much hassle but then I have to run dedicated wires for it, the mkI speedo cover almost fits perfect onto it and they are both 180km/h speedos with the same overlay basically. Haven't looked into adapting the sending unit on the box either.

Still looks like too much work though I'm going to take a look at replacing my speedo with one from another cluster I have and also replacing the drive gear in the gearbox to see if that stops the cable problem. Oh and lube everything EVERYTHING

It occured to me thismorning (last night) that if this car has an ECU, it pretty much damn well better know how fast its going;
ECU USA AW11 4A-GE
that implies which wires know. All I've got to figure out is how they communicate, and how I can use that to my advantage.

Electronic Speedometer

OKAY
Here is my $0.02 worth.

My 'new" tranny had an electronic sensor that I removed and installed the mechanical sensor. So one should easily be able to do the reverse!!!! Then just MAYBE find an electronic speedometer portion from an "Corolla?" instrument cluster and simply connect them together!

Here is one difficulty. There is a speed sensor in the instrument cluster that connects the ECU. If the mechanical speedometer is nonfunctioning ie. missing, the ECU fails to recieve this signal. Now the car obviously runs with a broken speedometer so the ECU can operate without the SPEEDSENSOR signal....... I am guessing the idle up after coming to a stop, then slowly dropping will be disabled, again this is only a guess.

Converting the electrical signal from the new transmission sensor to a compatible ECU signal would be relatively easy.

It would, but I was afraid you might tell me that the ECU gets its feed from the cluster. Stupid design.
I guess I'll just try and get the mechanical cable back in... and worry about it later!

not really the comp just does the engine which is irrelevant to road speed
only thing the comp cares about is the speed limiter
