CB in my duece
ok so i finaly got most of it wired in. when it comes to anttena, i have 2. 1 that is megnetic but has a short cord and really isn't that nice, and the other is one that looks like it screws into a mount. the guy said the screw in one was higher power. well i was looking around on how to mount it and i found some confusion as to if i should ground it or not. i removed the cars radio antenna as i have an EEE that will be wired into my stereo and also sat radio.
is anyone good with cb's? i am barely learning and if i can get this to mount up right it would be pretty awesome hah. by the time i am done i hope to have alot of tech in my duece! |

First off if you have the magnetic mount one piece type antenna they are pretty much walmart junk. I reccomend getting a K-40 antenna. They have been tops for years. You can get a magnetic base or a bumper clip. Plus it's two piece so you can just twist it to remove it to keep from having it stolen. The whip is about 4 1/2 feet tall, but the difference is huge. I've been using mine for about 20 years now. Here's a link where you can get one. GI JOES RADIO - Cb Antenna - K40 Cb Antennas - Cb Radio Antenna
Second off you'll need to get a tuner to tune your antenna. you can get those at the same website or, you can go to radio shack and pick one up. If you don't tune your antenna your radio quality will suck. If you need any pointers during the install and tuning let me know. |

CB and those Geico Cavemen
CB's are so incredibly old school they go back to stone axes and spears.
Their range as compared to a FM, or VHF transceiver is very short. Car electronics, and ignition systems cause static on CB's. And basically the only people who still use them are Truckers. And personally, I can't stand to listen to the accents and twangs truckers pass off as English. Of course they do have one saving grace . . . . the whores at the truckstops use CB's to solicit customers. Don't ask me how I know this. Heh he. |

Ah, the good ole truck stop whores. LOL I remember sitting in my parents 1982 old cutlass 4 door Diesel listening to the CB in the church parking lot. Some lady calling herself "Kitty Cat" was trying to get a trucker to visit her to make some cash. I was so young at the time I didn't know what the heck she was talking about, and the conversation was a bit graphic. My mom came out of the church and heard what I was listening to, and turned off the CB real quick.

ok then what about mounting it? i was reading about grounding it but i wasn't sure what they were refering to. does this mean its connected to the body of the car or there is a seal of ruber seperating it? lemme check that site for a mount.

You will need to ground the antenna to the chassis. Most mount do this for you when you clamp them on etc. You shouldn't have to run a seperate ground wire. Just depends on the mount once again. Take some pics of your antenna and mount if you can so i can see what you are working with.
