The speedo cable looks like a bicycle brake cable, except the inside wire rotates, transmitting the number of revolutions of your transaxle to the speedometer on your dashboard.

Its not an easy job. The cable runs through the center console tunnel where the fuel tank is and there is a lot of disassembly underneath the car.

The digital clock is electrical, and has nothing to do with the speedo cable.

Good luck. If you do it yourself, you've probably saved yourself a lot of money in labor.

Send a message via AIM to como
what he said.

The clock, and the inner dome light, share a 7.5A fuse that, IIRC, is in the cabin area; just by where your left foot would be.
As for the cable, it's a hell of a job. I've been looking at ways to replace it with an electronic unit, but I've come up short on workable ideas.

Speedo cable is extremely easy to do on your own! Just remove the gauge cluster hat (top cover) and loosen up the cluster so you can unscrew the cap that holds cable in, unscrew other cap from tranny, snip an end off the cable and pull the cable out of the sleeve (unless you can pull it out otherwise, since it is already broken ), take cable to any speedometer shop/general fab/machine shop and they will make an exact copy (got mine made for about $18), slide cable back in from the back to the front, make sure you get the cable properly seated in the cluster, tighten caps, good to go!
