A copious amount of parts have failed on my 89 Supercharged in the 3 years and change that I've had it.

Alternator, twice
Brake Master Cylinder
Clutch Master Cylinder
Idler Pulley
AC compressor clutch
Positive Battery Cable
Dash lights (due to bad switch)
Head Gasket
Multiple Vacuum hoses
Multiple seals and gaskets

And I'm positive I'm forgetting some.

Makes it hard as it's my daily driver. But boy is it fun to drive!

Handbrakes cable frayed and snapped on my first MR2
Then alternator failed
Then blew a hole in my gearbox

So far nothing has gone wrong in my new one.. just waiting for the battery warning light to come up on my dash lol

Quite honestly...... just about everything....

Engine...
axles
transmission
seen wiring woes
alts
starters (my wifes is on it's 9th)
wheel bearings
cables
heater cores

that being said.... if you have a parts car or know what to look for at a junkyard, they can be very inexpensive to fix.... if you have friends who work at a parts store it isn't all that expensive....

It can be a very VERY reliable car.... they can also be a pain in the ass. They all tend to do both.... and sequential.... it'll be very very reliable then a bunch of small things will come up.... then very reliable.

I've come to realize that with 21 years of life, my MR2sc is feeling its age.
but after 21 years, I have replaced the usual suspects like shocks and springs (a mod, really), but the motor hasn't been touched yet, save for belts and tune ups. but now the head gasket needs replacing. 21 years, thats pretty good!

Love my gutless little car! Repaired and replaced lots of items however it is my daily and I can fix it usually in an evening or weekend. It helps to have lots of tools and a dedicated space (shop) to perform the work in. I do all the work myself.

Alternator
Starter
Brake Master Cylinder
Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch slave cylinder
New transaxle
New Radiator
Plenty of more things my brother fixed/replaced before I took posession of the Mk1
