Mechanic In VA Beach Needed

Hello, im about about to buy my friends 88 MR2 4AGE, the clutch is not engageing and i have found that its the clutch slave that is screwed. I dont want to repair it, i want to buy a new slave, and get it mounted. I have no tools, and limited experience or i would do it myself (will be buying tools to start working on it). I was hoping somone from the forums would be willing to help me out and ill supply the beer, and kick them some cash if need be, not to mention i will be right there wanting to help and learn for myself too.

I just really dont want to take it to a shop and get raped by some mechanic who doesnt know what they are doing to an MR2 and have to pay them for 3-4 hours worth of labor, while they research and fart around with it, for somthing that can take an experienced MR2 mech less than an hour to fix....

If you live in the VA (Virginia) beach area and can help, or at the very least recomend a mechanic, PM me please. I really want to get some connections in this area with my MR2. Also, im in the miliatary and am here for a few years at least so ill be around a while. Thanks in advance for the help.

i'm pretty sure to do the slave cylinder...you need a 10 mm wrench and a 14 or 12 (i can check when i get home if you'd like me to) socket wrench...you take the 2 lines off the cylinder with the 10 mm wrench, then use the socket to remove the 2 bolts holding the slave in place...and then reverse proceidure...and then you bleed it..which is simple also
theres 1000 articles in a google search that could probably explain it simpler then i can

yeah, i can tell by looking at it how to do it, but it would take me a LONG time, and there is an aditional problem.

There is the place where the two bolts mount the slave into place. the threaded end which is in the engine/transmition/clutch area... and then another thing that the slave slides between. like this -> = with that being the problem. the top piece is spaced too far away, and the bolts wont reach. From what i can tell, there is a single bolt (prolly 16mm) that needs to be loosened about 8-10 inches below that area, that allows that whole assembly to rotate closer or further from the mount on the block. so i need to loosen that (get under the car without a jack) then put in the slave, then tighten back up that single, larger bolt down below. also i need to bleed the lines with new DOT3, which i have never done any of these things before. I should be able to figure it out, but it could take me quite some time, and require me to buy a bunch of tools i dont have money to buy right now (trying to buy the car right now) later i will buy tools here and there and build up a collection.

What i really could use is somone who lives near me and has the tools and know how to help me get this done. im not trying to let this car sit here while i try and figure it out and it end up getting towed for being abandond and/or broke down (this is va beach, very strict with lots of rules).

rofl, see thats what im talking about, somone who know what they are doing will get it done in no time. I spent 3 hours trying to do it myself without the right tools, only to (i think) break the slave requiring a new one alltogether now... all the while a single tool and a car jack should have made my life much easier... ill wait and see what i can get locally, and i will have to wait till tomorrow till i can get a picture, i have work today, and school afterwards, so its gonna be dark till i can get there... lemme see if i can find a picture on google...

ok the item im talking about is about dead center and about 1/2 inch from the top. if you look at the hose on the left side, that is wrapping up, then back down, at the very tip of that hose, you look just to the right and above (north east) of it and that is the bolt. You can see a round rust spot with what looks like a bolt to the left of that rust circle.... so its between the rust circle and the end of that hose, that is the bolt that controls that whole arm assemble. It rotates slitly closer or further from the engine mount for the slave, and its the part that pins the slave to engine mounts and you stick the bolts in from there... or you can move it away far enough that you dont pin it between two mounts, but rather just straight through the slave bolt holes into the engine mount. Problem is, mine is sitting inbetween either situation. Its too far for the bolts to make it to the threaded area of the engine mount, and too close to get the bolts in without using that arm assmebly. I call it that because i dont know what it is, and there are hoses and wires supported by it and its a bunch of pieces welded together.... i tried to highlight the area, but this site, or my server's firewall isnt allowing me to upload... and the pic is small but this will have to do, untill i can get to the car and take one myself.

so i need a jack, and to jack... post... things... and i need prolly a 16mm socket wrench to loosen that up, and move it close to the mount for the slave. Then i need 2 new bolts for the slave, and i need to drain an bleed the line once i get it installed.

thank you so much, i figured out what its called, its the shifter tree assembly, there is a single bolt at the bottom to adjust the distance from the engine block... this is where the two bolts go into, then through the slave and finally into the block. the shifter tree is too far away for the bolts to reach, so i need to jack up the car, loosen the tree, put in the slave, then tighten up the tree, im only worried that moving the tree might loosen up the slack of the shifter... maybe it wont, i dont know. im just amazed that this thing worked in the condition that its in. i know it didnt just happen over night, its just must have gradually gotten worse. Anyways, i appreciate the help, and will take pictures to show what was wrong and how to fix it.

ok i replaced the slave, but i did it in the dark and couldnt take pics... (i had a flashlight on my head, worked wonders). i got it to build enough pressure having to pump the clutch enough to get it home, so no more towing or ticketing to worry about. Now i just need to bleed the clutch and im good to go (cross my fingers).

for future reference....

remove the bracket that holds the shift cables as well... there are only 3 bolts that hold this bracket in place..... the 2 bolts for the slave cylinder, and 1 bolt below (IIRC it's a motor to trans bolt).... should have a 17mm head.

doing this will make life infinitely easier. The 2 top bolts don't line up because the bracket can be bent or have slight pressure on it. I've heard of some people taking many many hours just to line these 2 bolts up... I learned from my first time years ago.

thank you, i did notice that 17mm bolt you were refering to, and had loosened it to line up the bolts, and i think in all, it took me about 15 min to change out the slave, and about 2 hours to find the bleeder (it had been moved belive it or not) once TrainTech86 sent me a picture of what i was looking for, i noticed it right away, because i had seen it right in front of me the whole time, just didnt know what it was. It was above the engine, not below it... made it hell of a lot easier to bleed, only took about 10 minutes of flushing, and about 2 min to bleed and i was done... now it shifts like a dream, like a hot knife through butter.
