My MK1 finally installed front rotors and ceramic pads...
I finally got around to changing my front brakes and rotors. I found these items at my local Kragen autoparts. They were the most affordable for me right now so this is what I went with. I also wanted to try the ceramic pads myself and now I also updated my maintenance table so I know what I have changed and when to get a better idea of how much things last me.
Guys, I'm getting an upload error when I try to upload the pictures? Actually I'm getting an upload failed! Okay, I just tried 3 different browsers and they all failed to upload the pictures, just thought I let you know there's a problem. Okay, here's the link. Let me know if it's viewable or not. I suggest setting up a photobucket account they are free then you just copy the IMG tags over to here and your pics will show up.

I would, but this is the reason I prefer this forum to the other one. I can post my pictures on here. I also hate photobucket, they seem to take forever and just don't feel like making yet another account. I got way too many accounts, some, I don't remember what they are any more so I try to stay away from that now.
I like this forum, keeps things simple, I just put what belongs here, here. Unfortunately something is still going on with it today, the uploads keep failing. Anyone else having this problem? Everything is working fine on my side. Maybe the forum needs to be updated and restarted. I know there was some stuff going around with the blogs like a week ago, but not sure if forums were affected. |

You guys are comedic today huh? What I meant by simple is that I don't need another account to mess with and link to. Yeah I'm just getting tired of having way too many accounts, but this is just me.

I hear ya. I have atleast 8 different sites that I'm on with 5 usernames. It does get a bit confusing. I find photobucket pretty easy to use. Just start using 1 name over and over again.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm about to try the picasa right now since I already have an account there so I'll post the pictures there if it works out. I forgotten about this one. Not sure how it works online though.
It looks like picasa is working fine. I put the link at the beginning. Last edited by efx; 09-16-2009 at 03:58 PM.. |

This is the link to the pads. Mine is an 85 MK1.
While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at CSK Auto Here are the rotor options they have for this car... While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at CSK Auto I like how the pictures show. I guess I got lazy and just linked to the folder and not each individual picture. I thought only photobuckets did that. FYI I always make sure the pictures are larger but small enough in size to get them to load faster. Now I know that's what happens when some of the photobuckets take forever, people forget to scale them down or just use a lower resolution. The resolution may be faster since you don't have to go back and scale the picture or crop them. And yes they feel very fresh and feel very nice actually. The down side is I had to wait a couple of days since they were not in stock at the store. They had the pads in stock though. Last edited by efx; 09-16-2009 at 10:03 PM.. |

Looks great efx.
I've just done the same thing on my '89. I bought those exact same ceramic pads at O'Riley's for $37.99 for the front set (part# c242). If you want to see my pics, click here: Rebuilt brakes, suspension and wheel arch |

Thanks, nice clean up you did there. I'm too lazy to take everything out which is why I haven't done much else. I already have the caliper rebuilt kit, but everything is working fine so I'll wait. What did you use to clean those parts up with? I want to just sand blast it all to get a nice clean surface, but don't have access to a sand blaster that's why I just left things alone. Maybe when I remove the shock to see what's hitting on one side I'll do that. I'm thinking of getting new bearings too while I'm at it. We'll see. Baby steps for me or I will hate myself if I don't.

Thanks. My wheel bearings were okay, thank goodness.
I used a brass wheel for most of the external caliper bits. I then hit it with Rust-B-Gone and hosed it down. Finally, the caliper received a fresh coat of high heat satin enamel.I used brake fluid to clean the internal parts. The plastic wheel arch bits were cleaned with simple green and a whole bunch of scrubing. They received a fresh coat of bumper paint from Autozone. For the metal parts of the wheel arch, I used a grinder with a corse wire brush attachment. After that, I place a big bin underneath the wheel arch and sprayed it down with simple green to get any grease off. This is my project car, not my daily driver so I'm taking my time. |

I was in the school library today and tried to look at this thread. I found out that IE won't show the pictures. I can see them fine with firefox now that I'm home but on a different computer. I also don't know what happened with chrome, it just stopped working on my laptop too. I thought you should know.
