has anyone done any custom work to their headlights to make them flush mount?
has anyone done any custom work to their headlights to make them flush mount?
in aw11's they are far and few between....
I've looked into it on the aw11... part of the problem is the angle that the headlights sit when down..... when you remove the headlight assembly you have tons of room, but when you look at how much height there is overall, it becomes a little difficult....
in order to do this properly, you would have to find some DOT approved lights that are very thin.... or you would have to find some small DOT approved projector units (last I priced them they were around $100 each... and you need 4) and they will be sticking up a bit.
basically..... look at your car from the side..... take the point where the "top" of the headlight meets with the front bumper, note the height.... then take the point where the "bottom" of the headlight meets the hood.... not that height.... you'll notice that there isn't that much height difference.... so making a true flushmount makes it difficult.... you could modify the front bumper, but that's going in a whole other direction.
you could probably do it using some non DOT approved fog lights with 100w H3's... but your lighting distance will be compromised... I remember someone who did this and was not happy with the light output....

i was looking for some H4 conversion kits, anyone had any success with that? my stock lamps, are horrible at night...
I've always wanted to try using NSX units.. Saw an MK2 with 'em and it looked sick!
This is one of the projects I plan to take on! I am looking to get some measurements of 300ZX headlights, as well as a few others. If that doesn't work, I will look to sort of 'construct' my own.
I talked with one guy and he was thinking about the 300zx z32 style would fit with little mods. I had a set but sold them for dirt cheap when I had my 300 and I'm kinda kicking myself. I think it could work and might look decent but I'm not up for any body mods.
The guy above me posted before me but it wasnt him that I talked to. lol
lil blue bastard...i was thinking the same exact thing with the 300z lights..and possibly custom fiberglass them in
i found a HID 6k conversion kit with everything needed, including lamps/bulbs/wiring/converter for $113
post a link to this miracle priced kit
I have a local guy who sells HID kits from 6000K to 15000K for $75 plus shipping. I bought 2 sets and have had them for about 3 months now without any problems. the kits came with bulbs and ballast/ igniter. they are 2 separate units unlike some other kit I bought that connected the 2 headlights to one side. he also gave a limited warranty incase of breakage. I don't want to overstate the warranty but as he seemed pretty chill.

Yes, I have. My AW11 has Cibie H4 lamps and they are very, very good - many people say much better than Hella, even. They are expensive, but that expense is entirely warranted if you want lights that work, as opposed to lights that look cool.
Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply - get Cibies here. There's a lot to read there as well. Quality advice and useful information (as opposed to marketing hype) from someone who really knows lights.
I am speaking of H4 lamps that replace the existing sealed beam units, not a complete flush-mount lamp system, so pardon me if I have derailed the conversation...
I wonder what the interest would be in a conversion kit for the AW11 for a pop-up unit that only opened 20*-40* instead of the OEM 90*. I've seen a few cars that do that just for looks but nothing with an adapted headlight assembly to match.
From the factory the lights pop up 7.5". I think it would look good if they were to pop up only 3".
