300 tops since the titles salvaged, regardless of reasons.

I paid 600 for a running 85 zero rust, minor fender and bumper damage in the front with all mint replacement parts, my brother paid 500 for his 85, no rust or damage just bad paint, runs fine. I see mk1s going for 400-1000 fairly often in good running condition.
2500-3000 for a 180k NA? Not without a 20v swap or gze. even then thats high. If the title was clean, or it was someone who didnt care about title then 1000-1500 is reasonable considering the work. |

i would say 1500 maybe 2000 tops..
some kid might like the style you never know? it is salvage title and it has some goodies like seats trd shifter and horn button, a nice clean paint job doesnt take away the fact that its a salvaged vehicle so the price doesnt really go up much.. i think parting it you would probably make more money.. |

I bought my whole car (with a blown engine and minor body damage) for $300 bucks lol....
But yeah as long as you have the records to prove it was fixed or will allow to buyer to extensively look over the car you shouldn't have any problems selling that car for a reasonable amount, its not my personal taste but it looks really clean I will give it that lol. So as already mentioned by others you should be able to get at least 1,500 for it possibly more really depends on the buyer but as long as it is in decent mechanical condition, etc it is worth that regardless of the salvage. |

There are hundreds if not thousand of Chop Shops, that recondition salvage titled vehicles.
Sometimes they cut a two wrecked cars in half and weld the two undamaged ends back together. The result is a car that is AFU, and very dangerous to drive, and especially get into a wreck in. For the above reason, Salvage Title car values are very low compared to a regular title. |

thanks for the title explaination, and as stated, i would say you would have better value parting it out, might take more work, but would get more money. prolly MUCH more money as almost everything is able to be sold, and anything that cant, can be sold for steel.

while my price was a bit high, i was refering to the car with all records and after it was up on a lift, oh and i really liked the rims. all in all i am sure if you found someone cool and were up front with them you could get monies for it. i hate to recomend parting it out but you just might have to...

Like it or not, our cars don't fetch a lot of value at sale. They're old, and cars this age often have maintenance issues. If nothing else, 22-year-old rubber hoses are not exactly reliable, and 22-year-old electrics are often buggy. I occasionally see a fantastic AW11 listed in the $3,000 range--that would be one with a very nice interior, near perfect paint, new tires, and under 140k miles. A "good" running car with nothing wrong with the interior, ok paint and 180k will probably list in the 1500 range. A show-car shell will also run about $1500. Some of us have found "steals" but an MR2 for $300-500 either has something wrong with it or the seller thinks it does. Hard to say from pics vs. in person, but yours looks pretty nice. Even so, with 180k on the clock you'll have a hard time finding a buyer who wants to pay over $2,000.

I guess it depends on your location, but 500-800$ runners in WA is quite common. $1500 NA mr2s sit on craigslist for eternity. My 85 was listed at 1200 in oregon with a ton of spare parts, 1000 without, I got it for 600 with all the parts since it wouldnt sell. Its only mechanical problem was a loose tensioner pulley and the owner didnt know how to do the timing belt himself.
There are alot of cars that are simply not worth anything, look at the 1st and 2nd gen RX7s for example. Our beloved MR2 is another one of those cars, no matter how much we want to believe otherwise. |

I'm with him. Of course, I also live in WA.
Salvage title makes the car pretty much worthless unless you find somebody really nostalgic. The problem with AW11's is that they aren't overinflated in price like an AE86. Tons of AW11 owners don't understand the market and think the cars are comparable, but they just aren't (in terms of the market for them). The truth about AW11's is that with ANY flaw of the car, the actual sale price will diminish quickly. to give you an idea: 1986 MR2, new engine, great transmission, faded paint, "overheating problem" and no interior : $200 fixed the "problem" and drove it home 100 miles that day. 1987 MR2: spun bearing (which I turned into a thrown rod), asking price $1,000. Had a couple small wrinkles between fender and door. purchase price $100. 1985 MR2: damaged front end and rod through block. Obtained in a trade for 87 mr2 with gze/e51/ms swap and I also received $1,000 and a warrantied JDM bigport. Interior was flawless, engine it came with was flawless (turned out to have highest oil pressure of any stock 4age I've ever seen). I valued the s/c car at around $1,000 and I had paperwork for the engine of a $700 purchase price = car went for $300 1986 MR2: owner couldn't find the problem. Wouldn't start. Had a couple dents in one fender. Fixed it and drove it home for $400 1985 MR2: received in trade for 1986 MR2. Also received some cash in trade. This MR2 was diagnosed with a cracked block and the head was torn off. Misdiagnosed, put a new freeze plug in and sold the car for $600. Could have easily gotten double had I fixed the heater core. 1986 MR2: rusted body. 98K documented miles, owned by a friends grandmother since new. Interior 100% flawless. Body beyond saving. Purchased and drove home for $150 1987 MR2: ae92 4agze converted n/a. Bad transmission, came with no wheels/tires. $700 drove it home. This car also came with a bunch of spare parts (including the sc12, pulley, jdm gze alt, uninstalled new t-top seals): $700 1986 MR2: no trans and engine in pieces. Faded body, but came with hard to find 2 piece Enkei red mesh wheels. Towed away for $400 1986 MR2: ran fine on JDM map electronics. Transmision was good, body was bad. On cut springs and had NO clutch left. Asking price was $900, towed it home for $300. You can see that the prices of these cars really drops very very quickly. There are a lot of people who believe they have a high pricetag, but the fact of the matter is that they don't. I would say that a 1 owner, garaged 125K or lower mileage MK1 should go for around $2,000. A like conditioned original s/c should go for around $4,500, since they are in much higher demand and harder to find. A swapped 20v/gze car shouldn't go for a whole lot more than a stock one, as you have no idea how that engine was treated once installed. It may have lower miles, but it may be very very hard miles. They may say otherwise, but it's hearsay no matter. |
