its connected to the intake elbow right before the afm.... it was whiteish smoke at first and last time ended up bluish...i'm pretty sure its a head gasket. I thought the filler neck bubbles were from the burping process..but i'm pretty convinced they arent at this point.
but for the safe side..whats the typical proceidure to check the pcv? Last edited by espguitarist33; 10-17-2009 at 11:09 PM. |

pull it out and shake it, LOL.
when it's running you may want to disconnect the hose at the PCV and see if you can feel vacuum on it. it's a good idea to replace headbolts.... but I never have.... I've only seen one snap, and it was on a Saturn. I've had some I've retorqued 3 times myself on 4age's and never had a problem. |

It does save you $30 to reuse them, but OEM head bolts are only $3 a piece - so for $30, why not...

not sure what you mean my gasket is blown from my header? but it makes the typical silvertop dieselish clattery noise from the valvetrain, I'm going to go with thicker oil when i get it running to quiet that.
okay so I had some new developments. Since I thought it'd be a quick finish and start of dirivng I put that 104 octane boost jet fuel crap in there to clear a slight ping, and i dont really remember if it was smoking before I put that in or not, but i know it wasnt smoking when I took it on its test drive i dont rmeember smoke, but it started a bit after. so anyways I had some rank ass smell and some black smoke. I pumped out the last half a tank down to maybe 1 gallon left, and put in 5 new gallons of 92 octane. Black smoke for a few seconds, and then it went away. back to grey smoke, and it didnt smell the same foul stank of the crappy old gas+"jet fuel" but it was kinda similar. it is bitter, thats what gets me. It isnt a sweet smell like burning coolant. Its kind of sour and bitter and you choke on it a bit. I have smelled coolant on the manifold and it is way different. I have been introducing slight amounts of seafoam into the idle tract, and it seems like its been making the smoke lessen, and smell not as bad, but i'm not sure. It reminds me of carbon smoke, could there really be this much carbon in the car?!??! If theres any other possiblitys i'd like to explore them until i even have money to rip the head off and get a headgasket and possibly head studs |

that's not necessarily true..... a head gasket can fail in many ways... some that don't even reach the combustion chamber.....

remember, white smoke from coolant (at least in my experiences) is like sugary smelling steam. its not dry like smoke... hope this helps. if its bitter and dry it aint coolant. i blew a headgasket on a redtop corolla i bought to fix and sell and it made a steam trail in back of me. just see if you can find a way to describe the smoke more, cuz it doesnt sound like coolant to me, and that mens it may not be a HG
