easier to do underneath. also gives you the ability to inspect/rotate the square bushing if needed.

Yeah, on my car, you can't even access them from the top. I'd jack the car up by the crossmember and then place stands there. Just make sure you wear protective glasses because it will be raining crud that rusts in there. Also, if you unbolt stuff to get to the square bushing, they'll fall in your face too.

No problem. If you need any help, I just did mine two days ago.

I've changed the shifter bushings and linkages from the top (MK2), not so easy, but doable. I didn't have a jack at the time.

As long as you don't have a turbo, and have long arms, you can service the shifter bushings from up top.
Now, I'm only 5'8", so I can't even reach them from the top. I'd have to jack up the car to reach them. And I'm sure if you do it from the bottom, it's a lot easier and more comfortable. |

^^ same a muffin man, I did mine from the top initially when I installed them, and from below last weekend when I installed a new clutch... personally either way works just fine.
This was on a na mk1 88 year model. Its a really easy job just takes about 5-10 minutes todo. As mentioned if you do it from below wear glasses nothing sucks worse then getting crap in your eye. Did you get your bushings from speedsource? I'm using both their cable bushings and the shifter base bushings. They work really well over the original stock ones that where there originally. |
