new mk1 owner, some odd things..

hello everyone.
just bought my first mid engine car. shes an 86 n/a.
nice car, handles amazing.
i also just recently bought an 87 parts car, and noticed some weird differences that maybe someone could clear up?

first of all:
my 86 has the small tailights ( plate lights are on little posts and are UGLY)
the parts car has the full-length tailights.

my 86 has the e-brake on the drivers side of the center console, also has the ashtray infront of the shifter.
parts cars has ebrake on the pass side, and the ashtray is on the drivers side..

the 86 didnt come with a front strut brace, but the parts car did, aswell as the roof spoiler.

the 86 had the aweful looking 2 spoke steering wheel, the parts car has the "jdm" looking 3 spoker..

and finally, the weirdest thing:
the 86 has a short intake with the filter box inside the engine bay,
the parts car has the intake tube running into the boot, and the filter inside it..

was there a model change that just shifted around random things like this?
**EDIT** did some research. apparently i have a mk1a not a b.
still confused about the tailights as it didnt go into details about that.
ill post up some pics of my car shortly. its come a long way in a short time.

87 is where changes did occur. the brakes are different. there were several differences found on body trim and such also.
the 87+ have the air intake tract starting at the air vent: it goes around/through the trunk, and then through the rear firewall and into the engine bay.
lots of things will interchange, some will not. the taillights can be made to fit by drillng a couple of holes (so they say, i've never had to do it).

just installed the 87 tailights, your right i had to drill out the holes for the reverse lights. other than that it went smooth.
also noticed that the roof spoiler need the plastic trim off the parts car, without it nothing really holds it on..
